y2k owners

Has anyone went from a larger boat to a 30 superboat? I am seriously considering one. I have just sold my boat and my search has started. The y2k seems like a great deal. I had both an active thunder and formula - both great rough water boats, and both very dep boats. I am not sure how sitting down will be but i am sure its something you get used to. Whate are your likes and dislikes?

z.zuperboat 03-06-2008 10:49 AM

Y2k

Rides like a 35 with the price of a 24. I sit im my bolsters all the time no need to stand. On long island we have guys using buckets over bolsters in their 24,s . Fully trailerable , my wife even help trailer it back from Texas . Its not as plush as formula, just meat and potatoes. To me its just easier to clean.

Pure Energy 03-06-2008 11:23 AM

I had a 31 Sonic before my Y2K. I much prefer the Y2K! It is much easier and more comfortable to drive when sitting IMO. After a day in the Sonic I was exhausted from standing, trying to keep my balance, throttling, and steering.

The Y2K handles rough water better, faster with less power (and 1 less motor), very light-easy to trailer, the cockpit is actually larger the the Sonic, passengers on the back seat can actually see over the bow instead of looking into the cabin.

The major difference is cabin space. Y2K has less headroom, stowage and amenaties. But that is personal prefference. You can get one built with a sink and enclosed potti, just watch your head!! The only time I ever used my cabins was for the potti, tools, cooler, and stuff I did not want flying around the cockpit. But there is still plenty of room to overnight.

I love the Y2K and plan on keeping her for a long time!!

Oh, and here is a little rough water for ya!

Does anyone have any pictures of the Y2k cabin? Are there any comparments at all? Where do people keep anchor, jackets, bumpers, tools, etc.....just curious because I've been looking at these boats as well.

Pure Energy, saw your boat in person when I did the LGPBA poker run in my last boat, love the paint!

Thanks,
Chris

Very nice....not really looking for too much more then that. Is there any storage under the side benchs and/or v berth? Is there an anchor locker way up front....looks like a little door up there...?

I like your dash too...nice and clean!

FX10 03-06-2008 04:26 PM

There is storage under the forward V berth. Also you can order 2 more smaller storage areas on the port and starboard side up front under the V berth. Superstitious might have pics of those. My computer crashed and I lost alot of those pictures. There is also storage in front of the forward bulkhead. And under the rear cockpit seat. Under both buckets stere is storage also . Plent of room to store dock lines, purses, wallets etc.

Haha...yeah, just as long as I have a step on my bro, I'm good. We'll see...going to do a lot of research before I go making any decisions.

Thanks everyone for the info.

Chris I went from a 24 formula, 270 Baja, 27 progression, 30Scarab, and there is no comparison my Y2K is hands down the best single I/O in handling.. Excellent for wave jumping, 3-4ft chop, flat water ect... Handles like a 24 & runs with the larger 30's

Chris 03-07-2008 01:16 PM

h2o, what scarab did you have? 30 panther or 29?

my last two boats where a 91 formula 311 and 28' Active Thunder... The 311 was a rough water monster, i imagine it will be hard to beat. But from what i understand the 30' superboats are hard to beat in the rough stuff too!

Pure Energy 03-07-2008 02:51 PM

The Y2K does not smash through or crush waves, it slices through them and actually gets on top of them and flies!!! It is a totally different ride than a 30 with an 8' beam and twin engines.

Chris I had the panther with twin 454 400's TRS drives ect.. and Pure Energy has it all wrapped up in the above statement.

As far as the neighbors they just dont seem to get it ??? I cant figure them out ??? But they don't seem to object to the bikinis and they binocular count seems to indicate they enjoy the runway modeling on the pier...

Yeep, I watch your vid on youtube. Handles pretty simular to my 28 Arrow. Thanks to the step hull. NICE!
Does any of you Y2K use foot throttle? I know its sound silly, but its great. I use it in my 28 sit down. No more hand throttle. Really like the style of the Y2K!!!

Mange - If I was keeping the Y2K I would definatly put in a foot peddle... I just didnt have time to get it together with JC when it was getting built...

Yes, I agree, boattrader works.
I've sold a couple of boats there.
I sold my 24 Superboat here on OSO. The hull has been stripped and is back up for sale from what I've read.

Keep building those Y2Ks Superboat...

Here ya go!...I took a look thru my build thread...I realy enjoyed re-reading some of it!... Rick ya did a great job not only on the build but sharing the build on line which made it VERY SPECIAL... Again THanks!
Behind the head compartment thought it's hard to see, there is a lid for the anchor locker inbetween the watertight smaller storage hatches

H2oscene 03-12-2008 05:56 PM

Superbabi - Last year I offered to let JC sell the New Y2K to someone else during break-in since it was completed so late in the season. I offered to build another Y2K over the winter "Faster and Customized" and he Balked at the idea... Now I would like to build a 34 Superboat that will comfortably cruise in the low 80's with a top end in the mid 90's...

Wow two 34's !!!! Rick is sure gonna be busy !!!! H2oscene, any thought to power options ??? Merc Racing, Or ?????:D

H2oscene 03-12-2008 06:49 PM

34 with the ( or???) option. I really liked the power in the black 30 Y2K that was rigged during my build I believe in Maryland???

Superbabi 03-12-2008 07:08 PM

So a pair of 800's with a Konrad.

There is a fellow I've met at the Superfest parties that has a 34 with JC motors making around that. His boat does well over 100.
I think the last 34 with 525s ran over 90.

Hey Gary, another Superboat that will be faster than yours. How can you stand it???:D:D:D

jayhawk261 03-12-2008 07:23 PM

What's a well rigged 34 w/ twin 525s go for these days? $200k?

Hmmmmmmm, thats for this year, I do have a plan thats in the works !!! ha ha lol lol !!

H2oscene 03-13-2008 04:09 PM

A well rigged Y2K 525 goes for well over $100k new and they are the best value on the market in their class in my opinion... The 34 with twin 525's would be close to $200k....couple of more coins for 800's with Konrads... But I believe with the Handbuilt Quality (by Rick of course) they are the best value in that class. Ocean Killers

Big Time 03-31-2008 12:35 PM

Any idea what it would cost to fabricate and have installed new cushions in a Y2k cabin? This would include the V berth as well as the cushions for the bench on each side of the cabin(seat and back).

Thanks. I don't think the blue will go with the boat that I am looking at, but I will keep you in mind if I ever stop talking about it and pull the trigger.
