Superboat Around the World(S.A.W.)
#532
What happened with going with Jaco's???? Years back when Ocean Outboard was a dealer of ours. A friend of mine bought a 24 Super center console from them. With a 225 Merc, it would only do around 55mph. They tried all different setups with no difference. Kevin then took the boat to Accurate Marine I believe, and when he got it back it was doing 64-65. Big difference.
What #'s did you see with the motors? What RPM? You never said anything? I take it they never really dialed it in? You had no patience?

Noli - I thought I was a little insane because I want to upgrade to 300's this offseason.....you my friend take the cake. I anxiously await the thread that tells us you got 300 xs's, but decided they arent right for the boat either, so you are getting rid of the boat, having JC build you a 16', putting them on that, and calling it "SALI"- Superboat around long island

SERIOUSLY????? I dont think you want to go boating.... I think you just wanna have the longest build thread possible and do lots of CYBERBOATING....
Not knocking STR but WHY?????? And JACOS?????? again WHY???? There are plenty of LOCAL dealers that have competitive pricing and are STARVING and you are gonna buy out of the state and have it re-rigged out of the state?? I dont get that MENTALity......
I see your in Jersey.... I guess once its all together and your local guys close up you can bring it back to tenessee or miami to get repair work done...Thatt will be money well saved.....I love everyone always looking for what seems to be the cheapest price anywhere....In the end they wind up being PENNY WISE AND DOLLAR FOOLISH......
Whats wrong with Ocean O/B?? They seem to have been pretty accomodating in your LOOOOOOONG ass quest to do the Verado rig job.....
This Build is really getting BORING....In the time it took you to rig the boat Elvis BUILT, RIGGED, RAN THE $HIT OUT OF AND IS GONNA REPOWER the 30CC.....Probably sell it and move on before you ever even go for a boatride....

Let me shed some light as to how STR (Shaun Torrente Racing) works:
1. you will need your LOCAL mechanic to remove the heads off of the outboards...STR wants the heads delivered "fully dressed".
2. STR prefers heads that are either 250HP or 225HP 3 ltr engines. If Optimax fishing engines, must be '03 and newer with EFI
3. Ship the heads to STR in Miami
4. STR will do their magic on the engines. From the Optimax fishing engines, STR can convert those fishing engines into racing engines upwards of 350HP
5. STR will then ship the heads back to your local marine mechanic
6. Re-Install the heads and test using new and bigger props...and fly!
7. STR was also saying that he recommends, if using Optimax fishing engines, to install exhaust tuners, and sth else in the exhaust. Water pressure is important so you need to think about that one if you're upgrading your Optimax fishing engines....replace with used sporty lowers perhaps
If you ask for the "wild-all-out" setup, STR will :
1. if the heads are from Optimax fish engines, STR will reflash your '03 and newer ECU, replace the pistons - if needed, replace the cranks, etc. all with an approximate cost of $4,500 (every engine STR gets is different, so this is only approx. total cost)
2. if you send STR a head with the rods sticking out the side of engine block, he can fix that too. STR will close up the hole and install new sleeves. This is an additonal cost because STR has to prep the '03 and newer head before they can even apply their magic.
So using elvis' 30CC as our model here, he would take his 30CC to Accurate Marine, have his favorite mecahnic, GY, remove the heads, crate them up and send the heads to STR.
In a few weeks, STR returns the heads back to Bohemia, and GY returns the heads, do some testing with new bigger props.
Pros:
a. elvis need not get rid of his engines.
b. needn't take a loss from reselling his 250's
c. less labor costs from de-rigging the 250 and re-rigging the 300XS, less labor costs - save $$$
d. needn't touch the x-dimension of the outboards' lower unit, it's already setup
e. keep reusing your engine block, saves money over the long run, and as STR perfects his HP upgrades over time, we all save and re-use our engine blocks.

oh btw George, I sent you a private message on Feb 24, 2011 asking what you were upto. I wanted to open up convo with you and to see how you can do my next rigging(as I've decided over the winter that I didn't want the Verados any longer)...but you didn't reply. Last year I sent you a pm saying sth like, "George Yurick will be the only mechanic to touch SAW after ocean". Dig up that old PM, its in there somewhere
When I got tired of waiting for your reply from feb24's pm, I called elvis on May 19, to get your cell number, elvis replies back 5 days later with Chip's number!
Boy for some local guys who are starving, you guys have a funny way of showing it.
Just a hint of advise, if someone pm's you asking about what you're upto, and you're known in the circle as someone who rigs hi-perf boats...there's sth deeper that's intended in that hello

Noli- several things:
#1- At this point, what is the purpose of SAW? First it was to cruise the world and get the best fuel effeciency possible, now it seems its for speed? What exactly are you going to use it for? If its speed, understand some of our confusion about taking a set of 250's (which will have five year warranties), and chucking those warranties to make them 350's which, I dont care who is doing the work, is going to make those engines a whole lot less reliable. If you want speed, go for the 300's, because investing 4,500 in each engine (9,000 total) is an expensive proposition, and if you need to replace the crank, the this, the that......you really are just building an engine from scratch. And the cost of rerigging on a swap out of a 250 to a 300.....when the boat is properly rigged for 250's already wouldnt be that much at all....everything hooks up the same, you dont need to respace the engines, if you have tie bars, the wing plates need to be cut in...not much else. I have been told my engines could be swapped in two days if necessary
#2- George is a complete professional and was invaluable in helping me with my boat. He doesnt need hints, advice or anything else when it comes to customer service from anyone... lets not go there....any discussion otherwise is a waste of everyones time and board bandwith.....not up for debate, wont even entertain the thought, its ridiculous on about 472 different levels..... period............end of story! I cant begin to tell you the # of times he has come over on a Saturday, stopped by on a Wed night, called me to say he found a set of props for me to try, heck,he once left the beach on a saturday and drove to my house, with his wife in tow, just to fix what was a very simple little issue for me...........how many guys willing to go that far for a customer? And the PM from me telling you to call Georges boss directly, that was advice from George......as it was the same advice George gave me when I talked to him about rigging mine....since he doesnt determine the pricing on a rigging job. And I know how busy these guys have been, why, because everyone annoying customer like myself is calling in Feb and saying "I need the boat in 4 weeks".....George is lucky he has time to walk the dog somedays...much less check online to read pm's.......I myself was told back in feb by GY himself....call me, not getting online that much. George doesnt need me defending him, he is a big boy, but I consider him one of the top mechanics on long island (everyone who sees my rigging goes..."WOW...who did that?")....and anyone reading this thread in the future will hopefully understand that
#3- Shaun has a great reputation and does great work, if you want to deal with him, have at it hoss
#4- Those 250's will probably be for sale in November......they are a great set of engines
Good luck whatever direction you go in
