Superboat Around the World(S.A.W.)

I am not the one starving here nor is the shop i work for... I was just trying to make a point that i think is valuable.....LOCAL SERVICE.......
As for buying a set of 250s and modding the hell out of them to make 3??+ horsepower i think its foolish on a big boat like the 34.....the 300xs out of the box would do a great job and if you really want to spend money and get crazy then to hell with modding a nice reliable set of motors and just hang a third on it....the boat has the fuel capacity and the weight to offset the extra ass weight.....Or you could buy a pair of 350Vrods which your boat is already rigged for and viola you have the magical 3??+ horsepower you dream of.....
do you want reliability or all out speed?? last i remember it was reliability and servicability so you could cruise to the nether regions of the world which i commended you for....IMHO STR racing engines are for just that RACING....as for reliably running around and all around enjoyment Merc Racing does a fine job of that and i think leaving them box stock is the way to go in your application....i dont care who you are and what magic wand you wave over a modified powerhead longevity is never there strong suit....if it were that easy Merc Racing would do it and be the ones making money off it not aftermarket vendors....again not knocking what STR does i just dont agree with it in your application....if you were running a 21 super that rick built nice and light for ya and you wanted an all out flats weapon then i would say go for it....as for your 34 if you wanted the fastest at this point you should have just went with I/O power....i think john did one with a pair of HP 500s that went in the 90s....i am thinking a little more prop and a pair of 525s 100 would be possible....
as for you sending me a PM in february i dont recall it and my PM box only holds about 10 messages so i always empty it and may have missed it....
I just think that most of us are getting bored of status updates on your boat and wanna see or hear about some action taking place.....

noli, keep your power stock, as for speed, as George said add a third motor. Big crazy power ='s Problems, thats why my y2k is gone.
You have the perfect platform for years of fun. 5 year warrtany's can't be beat.

1. with the cost of fuel threatening to hit $5/gal and marinas are charging > $6.25/gal of fuel, you bet I will hold off on my long travels
2. what made you assume I wanna talk prices with GY???
I wouldn't talk about money to GY; in the same way I wouldn't talk to Rick-FX10 about the cost of extending my engine hatch; in the same way that I wouldn't talk to Steve the head mechanic at Ocean, about the cost of replacing my engines!!!
I just wanted to get to know GY and to get the same trust that you have in him. Heck we haven't even seen each other or shook hands. I just wanted to get to know GY personally...and not talk about money. It's only money! I wanted to personaly meet a great technician, as what you're telling us about GY
3. I'm just at the begining analisys phase of what STR is all about. And after speaking to this racer, mechanic, sales and marketting person...I want to know more about his services
4. I would make an offer to buy your 250's if the numbers are right for me. i hope I didn't burn my chances there
Good luck in your swap to move up to the 300's

#2- my bad...when you left me that message asking me how much 300x's cost and that you wanted to talk to George...I drew the obviously wild conclusion that you wanted to talk pricing ......no idea how I could have made that far a reach
#3 I have only heard good things....but I think you will be forcing hp into an application (both engine and boat) that you will wind up regretting........if you want reliability, then the last thing you should be worrying about is..."he can fix it if I stick a rod out the side"
#4- Talk to me in October......like I told you in that PM I sent you...I think we could make a lot of people happy at one time

#5- LETS GET something on that boat and get it running big guy......a 34' gets build about every five years at this point.....we want to see it running. Personally, if you kept those verados on you could have entered it in the around long island race, with the extra gas tanks....you have a real potential winner

Although I am being a hyprocrit because I want those 300's .....I have to tell you, I boated in my activator for years with a 2.4 bridgeport and a 2.5 EFI.....and every turn of the key started to become a 'cross your fingers' moment.....with the 250's, I just boat! If something goes wrong, I call...and it gets fixed...its a totally different feeling with a lot less worry

a pair of outboards is the way I wanna go...but the 300XS seems like it's not enough...600 controlled HP is not enough.
my dream would be 600 per side
anyone know when these engines will be run?

Slap 3 - 300xs on that puppy and be done.
Enter the Around LI race and then bring her down here
in Nov. for the Ft.Lauderdale to Key West race and enjoy it.
STR does great work..period. But honestly I would just slap some 300xs with warranty and you have nothing to worry about and enjoy asap.

I'm more interested in trying out new stuff, and I'm not scared of failing...I wanna take risks in new avenues of attaining big HP
I really want to only have 2 engines clamped on the back, less maintenance, less fuel, less weight, less drag in the water
I've observed this pattern with hi-perf engines performance:
1. you get a racing engine - 2 year warranty
2. you beat the engines
3. in the 3rd year sth breaks - out for the season
4. you buy a new powerhead or lowers
5. the 5th year the motor breaks again
6. go to step 1...and repeat over and over (boring!)
why not try this:
1. you build a racing motor for 1/2 the price and get a spare head, all ready to go
2. each generates about 375 HP
3. drive her hard..sth breaks in the block, replace with spare head...keep on runnin', send the broken head back to builder
4. the head comes back from builder...keep in garage
5. go to step 3
haven't thought about the lowers breaking. but could follow the same model with low cost spares
let me do some cost analysis...if this is even feasable

I'd been thinking that it has been too queit around the Super section of OSO... looks like that is going to change... at least for a minute or two.
After reading your plans Noli, why not run tripple stock motors? To me it makes sense vs making 2 motors do the work of 3... you could go with 250xs pro's and have 5 years on all of them.
