The new boat....a 30 CC
Hey everyone -
Met with JC yesterday, and decided to buy a new 30' CC. John took me out for a test drive and boat just handles great. Hops up on plane, maintains plane at low speeds, feels comfortable in the 55+ range. Afterwards, went by the shop, met with Rick, they walked me though how they build them, timing, what materials, etc...just overall real fun experience. Btw...Rick and John should have their own reality show, would blow away anything out there right now! :evilb: Now the first big decesion is....keep it all white or add some color. Anyone got any thoughts? I really cant decide. one minute I think the all white will be maintenance free, but some color (probably the stripping around the outside of the sidesl, kind of like what bash has) would spruce it up a little. If I go color, basically narrowed it down to a black/red combo, blue/yellow combo, or yellow/black combo. JC and the wife seemed to like the bue/yellow combo, I am really on the fence...so any thoughts, or other suggestions, please chime in! Thanks, Sean |

Thanks, Sean John and Rick are characters for sure. I’m sure building a boat with them will be a unique experience. All white would be the way I’d go. You can add vinyl graphic at any time and if you want to make a change it will be easy. |
Sean Congratulations, this should be a great build !!!!! We need to get some photos during the process. Another Great Superboat Thread in the making !!!!

Thanks Gary! and thanks for all your help and time answering my questions!

Congrats! I'd go all white and add vinyl.
|
All White !!!!!
|
Congrats!!
Pics? Power? I'm a fan of plain white with accents like bezels, seat piping, etc in color of choice (green for me). |
All white and maybe add some vinyl later on is definitly in the lead right now, just figure it gives me more flexibility, doesnt lock me into something that I turn around and hate in two years
As far as power, started brain storming with JC on twins (most likely 250 optis), but a bunch of little things need to be worked out first, so nothing set in stone yet. At a minimum, already upgraded to a 125 gallon tank for the twin application, thought about the 150 gallon tank, but John said it uses a thicker metal and is much heavier than the 125, I was on the fence when John threw out some decent logic...."unless you are going canyon fishing offshore, is 25 extra gallons and a ton more weight really worth it?" They should start it this week, so hopefully some pics soon! |
I read your original post wrong and thought you were buying the boat you rode on. What power was on the test ride boat?
Guess: 250 Opti's would be around 50MPH @ 25GPH which would get you another 50 miles range. If that is true- 250 mile range vs 300 mile range to push all that extra weight around all the time wouldn't be worth it IMHO. Vinyl is a great choice! In X amount of years if you wanted a "new" boat get a new steering wheel, peel the vinyl, new bezels and you got a "new" boat. You can do that 2-3 times for what paint cost. My next choice without a doubt! |
The test boat had the 300 suzuki on it, it was the boat JC took around LI
The 300 suzuki pushed it nice, with a top of about 60-61 and John thought with a setback, it could do 65, but I wanted a little more speed. The merc 350 verado was an option, but the merc 'non race' engines are currently coming with 5 year warranties, so it makes sense to build around one of those and I basically wanted twins from the begining anyway. Have some time to make a decesion on the engines still, so will take my time and figure it out, but right now, leaning towards twin 250's |
Ever find out what the issue was on that test boat that made it take on water?
|
The mold for the engine well wans't completet yet. It will be completed this week. Even if it was in. The waves in the basin were 3 plus feet, the motor stalled, and it took wave after wave over the transom. My 22 Mako would have definately gone down in the same situation. and I have a well. The first wave would have filled the well, after that, all the rest come in the boat. No bilge pump (s) could keep up with that. 50 plus gallons every few seconds. This basin was like a washing machine!
|
Just Make Sure You Have The Boat Built With A Full Transom And Put A Bracket On It Or At Least Have A Well In It ,Especially With Twins On It,,,You Dont Want Any Problems With It
|
John, Sean and I already discussed it. Thats the way he's going. A full transom w/setback. This should be a fun build, and I'll get pics up each week on the progress.

I’d want an outboard bracket with swim platform and ladder. I’ve seen a couple of Donzis this way and it’s a real nice. |

He was very rough guessing that twin 200's would be mid to upper 70's and 250's would be low to mid 80's, depending on the tinkering/set up.

You can get 4 years on the race motors (300XS at least; guessing the rest). Just making sure you knew is all and think the 250's would be a great choice.

Quick update....
Talked to Rick yesterday, deck mold had been waxed and was ready to go, he said he would get some pics up this weekend Talked to John yesterday, we went over the different transom set up possibilities and the plusses and minuses of each. So have some decesions to make there But everything heading in the right direction! |
Awesome sounding setup on this boat. I'll probably swing by the factory in a couple of weeks to see how the 30CC is lookin' :)

Was really cool to see them laying in the glass and seeing how quick/effecient they are rolling it in. Definitly a great part of the experience is actually seeing it made from scratch |
