I appreciate the offer OCC... wtf is a component speaker? Hows it differ from a 2, or 3way speaker (or are they all the same thing?) I'm not into stereo lingo...

I'll probably end up dealing with the local guy.. we've been talking and he has done some pretty good stuff in the past in marine applications..

The 4 6.5s I have in there do ok for just some music- but definatly not anything I would say sounds good. I don't know if 7.5" are any better?.. the 6x9s I've listened to have always sounded pretty good and I'm thinking about adding a small sub in a sealed enclosure where the chitter goes.

A 2 way is exactly what it implicates the 2 meaning two speakers in one unit MID and High, and 3 way would mean the larger speaker would be like a SUB and the other two would be High and MID !
But due to all the sound coming out of one unit and the size that they are restricted to prevents the separation of sound and the quality of the tweeter .
A COMPONENT SET will just be a mid range speaker that will fit rite in your 6.5 hole that you already have and then you'll drill an additional hole a few inches away to mount your HIGH . The Component also comes with a little box called a crossover that separates the base from the high .
Look at Clarion,or MTX Marine speakers for best $$$ Alpine , Bose , or Focal if you want to spend some money .
And also you could put a five channel amp that would power your entire system including a SUB ..
I have Alpine in my Y2k and MTX in the Pantera .

Actually, after looking around at the speaker options... I'm thinking more about doing this myself. I'll see what the guy comes up with and go from there... I don't think the 6x9s are the way to go- at least up front on the sides, maybe under the bench its the best option.... I think the only trickey part could be possibly building a nice integrated looking enclosure for the sub.. I'll keep you in mind Joe.

This is how I did my 24 . Box's are 3/4 plywood encapsulated in glass, and I know I still have to trim foam before motor go's back in lol ! And that's the 6.5 component set port side by the cabin door .
