You and I have talked about this before.
If I were in your shoes, I'd be looking for a good deal on another XR. Then turn up the boost to 700-800HP at the appropriate time. Then if your drive blows, and it will sooner or later, it's a quick swap.
Even at 7K each for 2 more XR drives you'll still be way ahead of the game compared to repowering with the new drive.
IMO just play with props for another year, your boat is awesome the way she is... :drink:

Pat thats exactly what Typhoon Perf. Marine ( Chuck, Master Tech, ) had suggested to do :D Mid summer he showed me a rack of XR's for his clients who kept spare drives. On guy had 3 spare XR's................he also had a tripple 525 42' OL......................As I said DEEP POCKETS.

Thanks Pat, I knew they were around $$ 7500, not bad I guess for " that piece of mind ". Perhaps a low hour used ( not abused ) drive may be another choice for half the price.

You could also try a BILLET DRive. They are supposed to be the step ahead of the XR.

How much more speed are you realistically hoping to gain by turning up the boost on Superbabi to pump out 700-750hp? What's your consistent top speed now, 83mph? If you're not comfortable posting the #'s here, please pm me. Thanks!

John you are a pizzer it great to have you at this fourm !!!!!..................Dan, thanks about the Avatar I always had yours in the back of my mind on how cool it looked !!!! Ok the best we ever saw was 83 + right at the end of the rev. limiter @ 5250/5300. Fasterdamit has 800 hp and he claims 93/94 mph, so not to get into all the math I would say 5 mph per 100 hp. So at 700 gives me 88 mph, 750 gives 90 mph !!! But I'm not so sure it's going be that easy to get the computer codes to open the 600 sci's boost all the way !!!! What ever it takes, one day I would like to see 100 with that hull !!!!!! :D

Ask the guys from accel (or call the shop we sell there stuff) if they have a replacement computer for the 600 or something. No one can mess with the merc stuff.

Pat your right, but its merc's game............................Tom I would say with no reserve or caution for the motor I would say the whipple can make 800-850 HP with 50 hour rebuilds..................John not sure about the heads ( Pat, Mike, Tom, JD ) would know better than me, but a yes for the prop set up !!!!!!!
