The easy way to get 700 !! It has to cost less then a new 700. Hell, when you get your motor back it will be good as new. Should be able to handle it.

Hey Rick, I'm thinking the same thing, I'm gonna get in touch with the motor builder and ask some questions !!!!! By the way I am selling the old 4 post Superbabi lift today. The new 2 pole elevator lift is here waiting set up, also the new Super Jet lift is on the way !!!!!!

For Sure...
I'm assuming your engine builder has a dyno. You could be the first to have a 600sci converted to a 700...:D
I like that part about limiting the peak torque to save the drive...

Pat, I know I said I no more mods, done looking for more speed. Well with this announcement I will be stopping in at the Raylar booth on Thursday to talk to them.

We are never done looking for more speed...:D

IMO the first thing to do with your 496 is to modify or change your exhaust.
Talk to Raylar about the CNC porting program they have for your existing manifolds and the testing they have done with the new Dana exhaust for the 496 engines.
I believe that there is 30 to 50HP to be gain with exhaust mods/changes alone...

Raylar seems to be the best source for upgrades on the new 496cube engines.

t-islands 02-12-2007 11:44 AM

I have been keeping an eye on the Dana exhaust, looks impressive. However I am skeptical that a base 496 will truly see 30 to 50 hp.

Heck, if I can get a couple more ponies and keep the transom clean with a slight ECM mod. I would be happy:cool:

Well T, Dana is claiming +48HP for the 375HP 496Mag and +43HP for the 425HP 496MagHO on the dyno at Raylar...
http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...d.php?t=150193

I changed to Stainless Marine manifolds from the cast iron exhaust on my 310HP/7.4MPI the second year I had my boat. I saw a 200rpm and 2mph increases with the same prop. That was probably 25-30HP. Your engine has better exhaust stock than that one did though.

Pat, yes there is a dyno in house, this should be interesting on what can happen with the 600 !!!!

Pat, you are always a wealth of good information. I will chat with the Raylar boys this week. Hmmm, how much will this cost. manifolds $2k, ECM $500 - $1K???, prop $500, steering $1500.

Pat,
I believe CMI has headers for a 496, which boost HP by 60. Raylar has aluminum heads for a 496 along with a cam and a few other goodies. Their claiming something like 575 with their full package. Who's the guy up the Hudson who whippled his 496. Did 81 out of the box, and after dialing in does 84. Thats cool for a 496. And that motor has been running for a few years.

Cary, he has the black and white Y2K with the 496. His boat was the cover boat from the Superboat on line pages.

FX10 02-13-2007 09:42 PM

Gary, your right, it was Cary. Where is he ? Wish he was on here.

Rick, it would be nice to have him on the fourm to pick his brain, those are some very impressive numbers, 81-84 mph with a 425 hp motor. Safe to say he making around 600 hp ??? :D

FX10 02-14-2007 05:08 AM

I don't know about 600. But I'm sure it's in the 500's

Pat, looks like its not gonna happen anytime soon ( 600 ecm upgrades )my friend spoke with him ( Ralyar ) at the miami boat show yesterday and it seems there still a couple of months away from there goal for correct upgrades, and my motor will be back by then from the builder, looks like a next year project. But then again you never know......................:D

That is kind of a bummer, but maybe it's best.
You don't necessarily want to be the ginnipig...
Let's just hope what ever upgrades they come up with can be done without pulling the engine...:drink:

SuperTramp 02-28-2007 11:44 AM

anythig new with the motor up grades

The 600 is coming back from Flordia next week, no real up grades, just a little boost !!!!!

z.zuperboat 03-01-2007 06:46 AM

Gary you should see about 3-4 mph for every pound of boost upgrade as long as you stay of the chip.

FX10 03-01-2007 04:08 PM

We don't know if the computer will let it fly. The computer is set to 4.5 lbs of boost. With a smaller pully and more boost, will the computer allow the extra boost ?? I guess we'll find out. I hope it works. It would certainly be nice having Superbabi doing close to 90. ;)

Gary the 90 MPH mark has Superbabi written all over it!

MDGperformance 03-04-2007 08:15 AM

Hey superbabi, did they dyno your 600,I am just interested what it makes stock, I know merc 525 makes 550-560 on most dynos,I have dyno tested merc hp500 carb and merc 500efi and they make around 500 on my dyno, the efi maybe a little more 5-10.Mecury racing probably has that motor close to 600-625 crankshaft hp because they have to warranty outdrive.700-725hp should fall out of that engine with about 7lb boost.Just need to add enough fuel and try to get coolant temp down if possible, need to re-program boost bypass .I am surprised that Dustin whipple or Arizona speed-marine have not come up with a kit yet.A moac intercooler would help also, but they are very expensive.

MDG, I did not get a chance to get any dyno #'s yet on the 600 sci, as a couple of other issues came up during the rebuild, but I will post them ASAP. No luck yet with Whipple or Arizona speed shop on the boost chip reflash, Raylar had someting going on with the 600 sci reflash, but that was a no go also. I hope with the smaller blower pully we may get a couple of mph's more out of her. Damn, this sport/hobby is digging deeper and deeper in my pockets.

I know how you feel Gary and I'm not even in the water yet... LOL

You'll have to clear a weekend in May so you can show me around the water ways there. I'm thinking the shake down runs will be sometime around then!!!
