Poker run!
|
Re: My next boat: Y2k!
Poker run weather was beautiful. Fair sea's. First time on the water I needed to do a test run but the Poker Run was about to start so we started at the back of the pack in the choppy water and cruised a little and stopped to check things out before getting too far offshore. Everything looked good. So we proceeded to catalina. Boat handled water great! Smoothest boat I've ever been in. You do have to use the tabs once in awhile because of the narrow beam. I don't like the position of the trim tab buttons. I have to reach around the shifter to use them. I think I will go to a floor or wheel control.
The ride back was a 65mph cruise in a little rougher water. Still love the way the Y2K handles the water. My 26 American Offshore cat would not have done what we where doing. Kept the trim low and flew across the top. About five miles offshore, suddenly no power! What the h*ll! I checked everything out and determined the MSD Marine ignition box failed! Here we are bobbing around in big water and no one around! After an hour or so a fisherman finally came along and towed us closer to shore until the sea tow found us for $600 bucks to tow us for a couple hours. I was told cell phones work between the Island but I found out only periodically. Well, everyone was safe and I got 2.2 hours on the boat and a high of 65mph so far. I'll get a new MSD comming and see how she runs next time. |
Re: My next boat: Y2k!
I keep a set of jumpers to jump across and by pass the msd on board. So all in all your happy so far with the ride I take it. its a real big water boat in a small package.
|
Re: My next boat: Y2k!
How do you bypass the MSD?
|
Re: My next boat: Y2k!
I lost my MSD box and a coil this year, I joined seatow for $100 and it paid for it self. I swithed to HEI

Re: My next boat: Y2k!
Tom,
How long is your break in period ?? |
Re: My next boat: Y2k!
Engine was broke in on the dyno. Outdrive is my only concern. I have 2.2hrs. running a 32" lefty Bravo1.
|
Re: My next boat: Y2k!
32??? That thing is gonna fly!!!
|
Re: My next boat: Y2k!
We'll have to see if I can pull it. I got it on E-Bay for $100 new. OH-Zone is going to try a 30, but at less max rpm.
|
Re: My next boat: Y2k!
DAAAYAMMM Loooks SAWEET!!!!!
Love those seats - and the 'merc blue' engine colors!!! Ya gotta be lovin' it!!! By Mapquest it's closer to Palm Sprgs than LI for me!!!!!! Hmmm...... |
Re: My next boat: Y2k!
Thanks Keith. Well I'm still waiting for a visiter. I got some good comments on the boat last weekend from some locals. And you could see everyone was wondering what it was or knew, because they where pointing and talking about it.

Re: My next boat: Y2k!
Tom,
Bare-ly Legal is one beautiful machine !! ;) |
Re: My next boat: Y2k!
A compliment from the creator! Thanks FX!
|
Re: My next boat: Y2k!
The motor is a work of art. The boat looks pretty cool too. :)
|
Re: My next boat: Y2k!
Thanks, I like the way the engine is set up. With the closed cooling I have alot of hoses. It runs between 140 and 160 deg. I think I'll make a aluminum cover for the heat exchanger and hoses.

Re: My next boat: Y2k!
So your really going for it?
|
Re: My next boat: Y2k!
Yeah of course... Unlike most people who post on internet boards, I'm not full of ****...
Now if i can just get one of the NY/NJ locals to give me a demo!!!! |
Re: My next boat: Y2k!
What boat are you stepping up from?
|
Re: My next boat: Y2k!
Been housing my brothers 28' eliminator eagle for him... been using that some and I still have the wakeboard boat for skiing/wakeboarding. This will be my first "real" offshore style hull!!!!
|
Re: My next boat: Y2k!
At least your doing research and jumping into a great boat instead of buying one for the gel graphics like most west coasters.
|
Re: My next boat: Y2k!
Funny you mention west coast graphics... Was almost sold on the Ultra 28' Stealth, but decided I wanted something with looks and performance!!!! By my figuring I can load up a Y2K and paint it for less then most WC boats of similar size!!! Ain't life grand!!! When are you gonna do some WOT testing?
|
Re: My next boat: Y2k!
Some west coast boats run, look at the lavey craft that thing honks. Not much to look at,reminds me of a sutphin. I do love the west coast tribal graphics. Mine would not be in the gel. everybody has different taste and its hard to sell something thats not appealing to your eye.
|
Re: My next boat: Y2k!
Oh, there are some nice lookin boats no doubt. If you sit in the channel and watch all the boats go by, when a non tribal/flamed out boat goes by it's almost a relief for your eye's if ya know what I mean. Go to a boat show out here and you'll go color blind! :D There are too many untastful designs out here lately. I think Taod and some of the eastern painters have it going on.

Re: My next boat: Y2k!
And yes Lavey does rock. Two thinks I like about the Superboat better. 30' vs 27'. Better driving position. Oh, and it's a Superboat. Superboat does'nt porpois. Everyone has Lavey out here. More room inside. Style. And I got to meet you guys! :drink:
|
Re: My next boat: Y2k!
Ahhhh Your making me blush :p
|
Re: My next boat: Y2k!
Not to mention the Laveys cost BIG $$$....
