Since my peak hp is close to 6000, I don't know how high I will be able to rev this 32" Bravo. I'm going to take a 28" out with me this weekend also to try.

FASTERDAMITT: What type of props are you running 5 blade ? We have the same motor here on a 31' V-bottom and trying to dial her in, nothing but problems on these 3 blades, and some 4 blades all slip...

Re: My next boat: Y2k!

I'm running Bravo1 four blade. I want some slip to help protect the load on the XR drive.

Re: My next boat: Y2k!

FASTERDAMITT: We got a 598 same cam and alomost the same alum heads as you, with a Bravo 1 outdrive. We used a 4 blade bravo 1 last night 28 pitch, we seen 61 MPH at 4700 RPM on a 31' V bottom boat. Boat weight is about 6000-6100 LBS front heavy. Cam guy said this cam dies in the mid to upper 4500-5000 RPM range. I am real interested in your reslults. Tom

Re: My next boat: Y2k!

Mine makes 801.7hp at 6000 rpm. He needs to check out your combo. If you have a cam with specs like mine then your heads, intake, or headers is choking your engine. I yours a hyd. roller?

Yes, Hyd Roller, Gill Exaust, 1050 Dom carb, etc etc.. What's the lbs on a Y2K HULL ? bare or with motor and drive ?

Re: My next boat: Y2k!

thayes, The Gil exhaust is going to choke your engine unless you go with a supercharger. I think it weighs somewhere around 4700.

So, how did she run?

FASTERDAMITT 09-12-2005 01:32 PM

Re: My next boat: Y2k!

Well Pat, Saturday I ran the 28 pitch with five people and all the gear, coolers ect. 75 gals of gas and not really knowing how to drive it yet hit 90 in one attempt at 5700rpm. A little nervous about break in procedure still. On sunday I put on the 32 knowing it's probably too big. I talked my wife into hanging out on the beach for one good pass. Unfortunatly I had some 2-3' cross wakes which gave me some white knuckles. 94 at 51-5200 rpm before I chickened out! Still didn't have the trim set but she was still climbing faster. I don't think the 32 is going to get me up to 6000 rpm so I am going to try a 30. My guess is I'll be a little shy of 100 without all the gear, tools, coolers ect..

Re: My next boat: Y2k!

94 and climbing... :evilb:
THAT IS AWESOME!!! :D
Those are Jcap type numbers!
I think his boat runs 92-93mph @5600rpm with a 29p 5blade.

Has anyone been tripple digits with a Tempest? If I get close I'm going to have to do some tweeking somewhere. I will say I don't notice any bow attitude problems. She seemed to like almost any trim. I just gotta find the sweet spot.

Re: My next boat: Y2k!

Rumor has it that the Zuperboat went 100 when first rigged at MRD with a 750. John did confirm. But not for me. My best was 86 2 years ago with the bravo, down from that now with the speedmaster.

Re: My next boat: Y2k!

The boat was pretty stable at speed. Most V's are uneasy when running hard.

Re: My next boat: Y2k!

You just hit on one of my worries.... How fast is too fast for a Y2K hull? I was thinking about going for the triple digit mark but not if the hull is gonna start exhibiting negative traits? Go for it Faster and let us know what happens.

Tom,
If I'm not mistaken, MRD rigged a Tempest years back that went in the mid 120's. That was told to me by JC and JC jr.

Pat wanting more is part of life. If I figure rite by the time im 60 years old my 30ft tempest should be going about 140 MPH. The point is just be happy with what you have. Everybody here has more then most people.

Re: My next boat: Y2k!

Hi guys. I had a great time this weekend in Havasu. Alot of good compliments from some great people. I bought a 30 Bravo1 sat. morning. Felt pretty good but did'nt do a solo run for speed. I had too much fuel all weekend anyway. I thought I ran it lower last weekend and put 60gal in sat. morn. It filled it up, so I was carrying near 100 gals. However still spanked a few boats in rough water running near 90. (I know there's alot of boats that will kick my azz.) One guy in a Daytona cat lost his back seat and who knows what else as I was running next to him. That sucked as we had a good run started. I hope he found everything that flew out. Next trip out I'm hoping to have less fuel and finally dial in a prop. I'm thinking a labbed 30 or something may be the ticket. I would like to see 90's on a avg load.
