Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
Sure install, twin hydrolic pistons to open and close. That will pull it down
tight and even. Battery switch under the seat for access to jump if needed. I will admitt , I wasnt impressed with the hatch at first but it does look sweet installed. Now the billet grill. |
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
Hey Zuper,
I bet the Superman logo " S ", would look sweet on that hatch. John and Bob were working on the template for the billet incert today. |
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
I was thinking staying manual lifting to save some weight. I'm gonna have enough weight in the stereo!
|
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
I might be able to rig something like I use for the cabin hatch on the engine hatch. That is, if John lets me experiment alittle. LOL
Tom, Look at the areas that I have the lines to. Those areas are'nt supposed to be gelcoated, but I figured if you cut out a opening for a access hatch, you can get even more storage. John does'nt know yet. The areas are approx 5" wide and the length of the bench. Plenty of room for jackets and additional ropes. Rick |
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
Rick...
Any picture of what JC came up with for the air intake on the new hatch? |
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
It's machined from 3/4" aluminum. I'll get a pic. You can have it powder coated to match your bezels. It's pretty nice looking.

Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
I Saw It Last Friday , Looks Great !!!!!
|
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
AND YOU DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING GARY!
|
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
Tom I Am So Sorry I Forgot. All I Could Think About Is How Rick Let Me Paint Your Deck Over, Don't Worry A Good Roller & 12.99 A Gallon Paint!!!!!! Ha Ha Only Kidding..........it Was 5.99 A Gallon !!!!!!
|
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
So I'm sure it looks nonskid now!
|
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
I'll take mine "polished" please!
|
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
Hey Rick,
Can you build me a flat hatch (without sunpad) for my 24'? Dave M. might want one too... |
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
1 Attachment(s)
This Is It !!!!!
|
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
Looks good. Handle must be recessed for me. Did we decide not to do billet?
|
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
Tom Did You Get Mortorized Hood ?????
|
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
No. I wanted to save some weight.
|
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
Just a thought... Faster you could possibly use one of those pop-up mushrooms that youd use for a side fender. Thru bolt it. I'ts small, out of the way, and when you need to open, pop it up and grab at it. When done pop it closed. Dont know if it would be strong enough, only seen them on the web.
|
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
That's something like I had in mind. I really don't like the toe scrapper hood pins. I could see those scrapping my babies azz. Not good!
|
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
Donzi makes a beautiful hatch pull and a 1/4 turn latch which I've always admired on the 18 and 22 classics Ive owned Similar to the Hood latches I had on my 70 Mach 1. Come on... your a parts guy you gotta have something up your sleeve!
|
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
Ya, I'm a prts guy and also have a vintage mustang but I don't have the hood latch's you mentioned. That's a good idea! RICK are you listening? :drink:
|
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
1 Attachment(s)
I don't have a close up of the hatch latch from my Classic 18, but it was not a tight fit - the latches from a 69/70 Mach 1 are far more 'positive', though still not flush. Searching for a flush mount T-handle hasn't turned up any yet.....
|
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
I guess if I go with an electric lift ram you don't have to have the latch's?
|
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
2 Attachment(s)
True!
|
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
Thats why I'm going with the electric hatch lift. Much cleaner look...More WOW factor when you show off your 572. I cant Imagine that the electric hatch lift weighs that much.
|
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
Tom The Electric Is Nice !!!!! And In Your Case You Will Be Opening That Big 572 Blower Motor Hatch To Show Her Off !!!!
|
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
OK OK! I'll have to eliminate a speaker to keep the weight balance. :D
|
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
Krak, definatly looks better! :drink:
|
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
LEAVE OUT A SPEAKER ??? I SAW YOUR OPTION LIST !!! IF YOU DON'T MIND ME SAYING , LEAVE OUT THE KITCHEN & DINING ROOM !!!!! HA HA LOL !!!!!!!!! :evilb: :evilb: :evilb:
|
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
I knew youd see it our way. After all we wouldnt steer you wrong would we guys

Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
Hey Rick,
I was speaking with JC at the shop on Saturday. He was not aware that the existing engine hatch on the 24 Super will not clear the new 496 engines... Dave M. had to raise his hatch anyway... If I can not swing the $$ for a bigger boat next year, I will be redoing the interior along with some other upgrades on my 24'. If you fellows do end up building a new hatch for the 24' that is in the rigging shop, I may be interested in one as well. Maybe Dave M. would be too. Later, |
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
JC might use one of the 30' Tempest hatches. There are around 3 of them I think. They could probably be retrofitted to fit a 24. I'll have to check.
|
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
Dana Power Hinges are the most trick setup I've seen for an engine hatch.
Anodized to your spec. http://shopping.rexmar.com/Merchant2...anapowerhinges |
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
Anyone know if thiers plans for the billet insert or not for the scoop?
|
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
Tom,
It's all taken care of. JC has a billit trim ring for the opening. The one that went on the Maryland boat was powder coated white. I thought it should have been done the color of the bezels, that would have looked trick. As with most scoop openings, theres no mesh, screen or louvers. I think Gary is trying to get JC to put some kind of louver or screen on his. Polished stainless screen would look awesome in there also. |
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
Funk,
Printed out the info for those hinges last year and gave them to JC. He could'nt believe how much they cost. Rick |
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
The billet opening trim would look good polished or powdercoated silver to match my gages, I think.
|
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
On those DANA hinges. I'll pass. I see alot of boats out here with them. Too much bling bling for me. Not to mention all the extra bushings to wear out.
|
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
As Rick said louvers or screen in opening. Also we were thinking perhaps to install the SUPERBOAT word in opening !!!
|
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
Nice! I'm for the Superboat. :evilb:
|
Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch
Tom thats what Rick and i thought. SUPERBOAT (the word) would look great !!!!!
