Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch. The mold should be done in around a week. It looks AWESOME so far.

Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch

This is the hatch that the next 4 Y2K's are getting. And with No Chincy Round Plastic Vents !! I told John that I would make a template for the front of the hatch. I have a friend who would make a polished Stainless Steel plate for it. Or I suggested to John to make it out of Aluminum, then have it powder coated.
So Gary, Tom, Oh Zone, you'll have the first single scoop engine hatches. Gotta admit, they'll definately add to the cool factor.

I dont know about that one? Kind of looks like its from an old mustang. If you need the height yes.If not how about some type of inner air pan.I do think cappie has an awsome hatch.

Rick, I like the way it wraps aound the back. It does look like the one on my stang. I wont judge it till I see it finished. But I think it will look good.

Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch

We have the mold for that hatch, But John wanted something sleeker, that followed the lines of the deck. And this new hatch will definately compliment the Y2K. Personally, I think the old box hatch doesn't look right on the deck.

Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch

FX I agree... Im also partial to Mustangs...My 1st car was a 70 Mach 1 same style scoop... Invisioning the new one, I believe it wont be too obtrusive..

JCAP
I see you removed the grab bar in front of the passanger front seat. I was going to deleat mine also for a bit more room and thinking of putting a stainless elipitical grab rail on the left side for the misses instead. It opens that area up quite a bit... You have anything for your wife to hold on to? Jonn Jr's boat had seatbelts he stowed under the front seat coushions I noticed once while checking his ride out. There when you need them, outa sight whrn you dont. He also had a sort of pistol grip mounted on the left with an additional trim button in it for the co-pilot.

I don't know about the seatbelts. But they're not a bad idea for JC, since JC's feet don't touch the floor. LOL

Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch

Rick,

The scoop looks great.

If I can ask?....

Did you design and build the proto that you'll be integrating to the standard hatch? Or is this a hot-rod part that anyone can find?

Thanx!

Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch

Yes Bob there was just finished sanding the bottom side and ready to gelcoat it. He was there by himself so I gave him a hand flipping it right-side-up Its awesome!

SUPERSTITIOUS 02-26-2005 08:28 PM

Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch

One thing we need to do is come up with some type of nylon washer/sleeve combo to insert thru the hatch lid holes. They install a 3/8" bolt thru the fiberglass tabs in the rear corners that which the hatch pivits on. Those holes over time I've seen elongate and become sloppy. Bob there said if the hatch struts are used, this in effect can increase the pressure on the drilled holes in the fiberglass and in effect increase the wear. Any thoughts? I mentioned this to JC yesterday but doesent have a fix.

Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch

What about the opening in the scoop? Billet insert or what?

Oh-zone, We Will Have To Speak To Rick About That Problem With Bolts/hatch. I'm Sure He Will Come Up With Something. Gary

Re: Prototype Y2K Single scoop hatch

I went to home depot yesterday and picked up some plastic nylon sleves and washers for the 3/8 bolts and I'll sentd them to JC see if he can use them...

More questions/suggestions. Can you have access to open the hatch from behind the seat so the top is as clean looking as it is in the pics? :evilb:
