One pair of Borg Warner Velvet Drive 1:1 72C transmissions, for TRS applications. They were sold to me as new old stock by a friend who had a boat building business. They were on his shelves for years, and now they are on mine.

I also have another pair of 72C's, that are good used takeouts, and include the hard to find TRS tailstocks. They came out of my 35' Cigarette Mistress, which wound up being sold as an unfinished project.

I'd like to unload both pairs, I'm asking $750 each unit or $1200 for each pair. They are located in South Florida

E-mail me at [email protected] if you're interested and I can send you pics.

Thanks,

Harry

I have a 71C, needs a rebuild. Plug in style, no tailstock. Excellent Condition. Was Huber Built 925 spec. Will sell cheap, just don't need it. takes up room

It is my understanding the 71c was used on small blocks and the 72c was used on 454s. To me they look the same externally. Maybe the 71c is smaller in housing dimension . However internally the 71c clutch pack is much smaller in size than the 72c. The pinion gears are also much smaller on the 71c. I can not imagine why Huber would modify a 71c as the internals are so small. Maybe the tranmission dicussed on this post is really a 72c.

The 71C is 15/16" shorter (in length) than the 72C

It was used on low hp (330) big blocks.

Small blocks were typically fitted with the aluminum case MercTrans that had Ford internals.

You can modify 71C with two additional clutches. We raced for 8yrs with TRS w/modified 71C...never broke or hurt the transmissions with 468 ci @ 500-525 HP.

71C was also the transmission that came with the 370 TRS in the late 80's. The 420 TRS have the 72C.
