Re: $0.70 fuel Bio-Diesel ???
My brother Todd is into this big time. www.fuel-tanks.com he is supplying Willie Nelson .with the fuel dispensing systems to distribute the bio , the venture is called biostar. They just delivered a system to him this weekend and jammed with him in Texas. Todd is also a musician. Anyway the fuels best application at present is for tractor trailers. The cost is similar to diesel fuel not .70 a gallon . Thats guys cooking up there own home brew
using there own yellow oil . The cost may soon become cheaper than diesel if the government goes ahead with planned programs to give new incentives. The big market now are fleets trying to meet the clean air act req. to burn alt. fuels. Fitzsimmons Systems is currently building biodiesel systems in a new plant in Syracuse N.Y. Bottom line it is a little premature for boats especially high performance boats. But we are having luck with tractor trailers reporting improved performance and mileage. Todd also just purchased a new vw diesel tour reg to run as his personal vehicle burning biodiesel. |
Re: $0.70 fuel Bio-Diesel ???
The cost thing is tricky because some use it pure but most blend it 80/20 or b20 as its called. b20 is close to diesel fuel in price but burns cleaner and is better for the env. also it smells better eliminates the black smoke effect. I think it will be big someday in the offshore yacht market . Your 10 million dollar yacht wont have a black transom and your guest won't be sick from the diesel fumes.

Re: $0.70 fuel Bio-Diesel ???
So as far as the responses go the general consensus is that it may work. I idea of going for a boat ride knowing OPEC didn't get a single penny is very very appealing. It seems that the people with the most direct experience are in farming. American ingenuity at is best. Problem is supply. Not enough crummy food sources. Now in any urban area, Detroit in this case I imagine the amount of deep frying and as a result available oil is amazing. It still seems weird that these oils have the same or better thermal values as petroleum stocks. Thanks for all the input. Thanks Cord for your offer. I think I'm going to buy one just to see if this works.

Re: $0.70 fuel Bio-Diesel ???
To use the yellow grease a seperate tank is required with a preheater installed and pump to the regular fuel tank. That mey become attractive if the $$ keep going up for dino diesel. I started running B5 diesel at 10k in my duramax. Would like to step up to b20 if I could find it. Then to b100. Haven't had any injector problems or filter problems due to this change. Frankly I would be happy to pay $3 or $4 per gallon for b100 to know I am not supplying the oil companies that are putting the screws to us now. Shame on them.

Very similar situation with ethanol. It's not all it's cracked up to be. Politicians, scientists and farmers have alot to gain from this:

We run premium diesel fuel in all or farm tractors and semis and my F350. Since we switched to a 2% blend of bio diesel (btw a 5% blend nation wide would consume 1/3 of the soybeans we raise) 2 months ago, we have not changed one filter or injector. My MPG in my F350 has increased by 2. We notice better low end pull in our semis. The addition of soy oil in the diesel raises the cetane rating. The biggest thing holding bio diesel back is the oil industry not wanting to lose 2-5% of their bussines. :( Let's see, you're a farmer, you are investing in ethanol refineries so you can sell your corn, but you want us to believe your non scientific information on gains you have "noticed"? |

"These bio-fuels are hydroscopic (attract water)"
Work Cited: http://www.irish-energy.ie/content/c...&language_id=1 Biodiesel Cons ~Destroys rubber parts. The rubber used in fuel lines of more modern cars can stand up to Biodiesel pretty well but will eventually corrode. While you can buy high grade fuel lines that accept Biodiesel better and last longer, there are other rubber parts that are hard to protect. Often times the rubber parts in the fuel pump will break down and it can be expensive to repair. ~Toxic process. Although Biodiesel is not toxic itself, the methanol and lye used in its production emit toxic gas when they react. ~It’s pricey. In Portland B20 sells for about $1.86/gallon at the pump while regular diesel is between $1.59 and $1.67. B100 is harder to find and definitely more expensive. ~Accessibility. Although it is slowly being sold at more gas stations, Biodiesel is still hard to find. ~Cold weather. Biodiesel gels at cold temperatures and can get too thick to combust properly if it gets cold enough. Work Cited: http://www.lclark.edu/~jprindle/prosandcons.html |
Re: $0.70 fuel Bio-Diesel ???
Saw a sgment on one of my favourite shows "Trucks" about Bio Diesel ......this one used the waste cooking oil process that you get for free from restaraunts........a couple of steps involved transfering stuff between barrels.......and you use lye to purify the oil........according to the program its better in every way than petroleum and can be made for 70 cents/gal........shows stacy boiling the hides mercilessly in a cummins pickup....... remember!!!!....Im just reporting it!!!!!!
www.freedomfuelamerica.com find the FAQ section......it answers alot of questions and gives a good idea on the process........I cant find a price for the system though...... man it would be good to run the truck and heat the garage (when I get it built) for those prices......... |
Re: $0.70 fuel Bio-Diesel ???
chit!!!!.......hey OSO.......I meant to post this in the "trucks" fourm........could you move it for me?...... thanks.......doug
