Technologically, I think it'd be very difficult to pick a winner. To be honest, I don't think either is better. They're different... I've always been in a Merc family - although my dad used to drive a Beemer 528i in the 80s. It's just about style. BMW is a car for drivers who want to feel involved, where Merc offers that Sunday cruise (although lately, very fast Sunday cruise) feeling with minimal effort. Pretty interesting how horsepower obsessed the AMG and M stables have become in the last year or three though... "Dude, have you seen the new CL65?". "Yes, but have you seen the new M6?".
At any rate they are sedans that have to be speed limited at 150mph. So if you need a 200 mph car then this is not gonna make it. That's 911 Turbo S country.

BMW will always be the drivers car. They are more responsive to input and offer more feedback on the road. I had a 540i 6speed for a couple years and it was one of the most fun cars ever. Besides, BMW offers the 6speed manual in its five series(which is a must for me.) I guess i am a bit biased towards BMW, but I think they have always offered a better car for its purpose. I do like the AMG rockets, but an M5 will slaughter one anyday. Just my two cents.

Benz Engineers:
"By 2030, we will have switched to fuel-cell vehicles powered by electric motors," says Multhaupt. "The principle problems are solved, now it is only a question of cost and we are making breakthroughs all the time." The development guru believes that an onboard transformer will be used to generate the necessary hydrogen.
So tell me...a fuel cell...electric motor...is somebody trying to take our fun away as "we" know it?

I think the AMG cars rule though, the SMG transmissions are a nightmare to fix!
