It's salt. I have heard wash wax and wax again. I am going to try and not dip it much. A local marina can lift the boat off of the trailer and splash it that way. I hear just setting it back on can cause damage. Wash and wax, then again....

had a ***** of a time selling it cause of the single screw, used it for the dunes out here, kinda overkill but you couldnt beat the NASCAR look going down the road or pulling into camp. 74 feet long [including trailer] 13.5 feet tall, 56k loaded :drink:

let me rephrase,Federally FUNDED freeways,RV only non-commercial, no scales. I used to keep the exact law/statuate in my rig if I got pulled over but in essence it states that the federal law overides the state law on length restrictions up to 75 ft if the road was federally funded. This was a huge deal for us [duners] and drag racers who had multiple cars and equiptment. the problem was on smaller or non-federal roads you were screwed and at the mercy of the LEO

Most of you boys stopped playing with little boat in the bathtub a long time ago. So now you need to stop playing with your little trucks and get something like this, they extended the hood and chopped the top, 600hp and 2050 ft.lbs.trk.

You guys need to learn how and play nice or I'm taking my trucks and going home.

And I'm sending my dad over to beat up your dad

Bad @ss, but way to long. My Nortech is over 60 feet on the trailer and it would suck trying to get it around with that. I am looking for a IH 4700-4900 crew cab that I can shorten up and run an 8 foot bed on.

The 8 footers are good for 5th wheels but if your pulling with a hitch (or a pintle, as I do) you'll like the comfort of 12' or 14'. 8' will be like riding a pogo stick.

The International is a good durable truck but I hated the cab room- too close to the dash and the motor is further back. The Freightliner has a much larger cab with the motor forward a bit- quieter and cooler in the summer. I also regret not holding out for an extended-cab. I wish I'd have gotten an automatic as well. If I had the $$ and could swing a new one, it would be the Pete 330 with the 320hp Cat and the Allison. Air ride. Extended crew cab with the 8' bed. Sweet rig.

There are 3 tupes of mediums- standard (22.5 wheels) standard 19.5's and lo-pro's. The lo-pro is a lower chassis- alot of people advertise "lo-pro" trucks that aren't. I bought the standard- the ride and tire life is much better but the turning radius is less. The lo-pro rides terrible. The standard chassis with 19.5's is a good compromise- not too tall and decent turning radius. It wouldn't be too comfortable on extended highway runs though- especially empty. I went to pick up a boat with my buddy in his. I felt like I'd been in a fight when we got done- about 14 hours in the truck.

We Ohio residents are often blessed with visits from motorists from the great State of Michigan. It never ceases to amuse us.

We have a joke here- What's the only thing that scares a PA driver? A Michigan driver.

I had a coworker tell me of getting pulled over in Ohio once while he was not speeding. The officer wanted to search the car.

When asked why, the officer replied "You have Michigan plates and you're not speeding. You must have drugs or something on you"

What he really wanted to say was...You must be on drugs to come to Ohio.

My favorite is the guys who go out and buy the big heavy pickups and then go to walmart and buy a 6000 lb slide in receiver hitch and the lightweight balls. Lets don't forget that link between the truck and the boat.

byrd, with the garbage trucks always reg more than you have too to avoid the over weight ticket.. with the boat and trailer, just get the max weight, with gear and fuel, and reg it for that.. im sure it will only tow your rig, unless you are using it for other towing.. anything over what you will be using it for is wasting your money.. work trucks are different, you never know when you will be overweight.....

Tom,
I asked my neighbor that just got into the towing business. they told him to make it 25950 to avoid all the cdl issues. He found out by just walking into a weigh station and asking the police there. they were a great help and answered every question

Your manufacturer's GVWR dictates what your vehicle is registered at. Under 26,000 is non-CDL. 26,001 and up is CDL. They're going to assign it's registered weight to what the GVWR is on your paperwork. This doesn't apply to an RV or to a non-commercial bus which is considered to be an RV.

Also, you can't register a vehicle that is rated 26,001 and above as a non-CDL vehicle. USDOT prohibits any changes to the Mfg. GVWR.

Interestingly enough, DOT limits a non-CDL driver to a loaded trailer not more than 10,000#. I'm afraid to ask if non-commercial's are exempt.

your fine.... if your trailer weight with boat is not near 26,000 you paid a little extra than needed.. other than that you did the right thing... do you know what the boat and trailer even weigh???

Re: Towing capacity question??????

bryd, the dmv will never tell you what you can reg a truck or trailer for.. they dont care, who does are the troopers, and county cops.. the more you reg a veh for teh more dmv makes, its all good to them... the veh will tell you what is legal... all you need to know it this..

Gross Combination Weight Rating....... (GCWR)

this is the maximum allowable weight of the towing vehicle and the loaded trailer including cargo, passengers and fuel that the vehicle can handle safely without risking costly damage.. The measured GCW must never exceed the GCWR, which in your case is 26,000...... if you reg for over this you are wasting your money cause you have the wrong tow veh, if you wreck you wont get paid... the only thing that over doing the GCWR does for you is that it insures that you wont get an over weight ticket, thats it...

you did the right thing, if you are close to that weight, which is 26,000.. if you are well below that, and i dont see how you can be you just wasted your money.. how much did it cost you to reg it??? 60.00

stecz20 05-07-2006 09:00 PM

Re: Towing capacity question??????

at 17,500 you would have problems... you did the right thing.....

stecz20 05-07-2006 09:16 PM

Re: Towing capacity question??????

GCW is the weight of the loaded vehicle, plus the weight of the fully loaded trailer. it is the actual weight when the vehicle and trailer are weighed on a scale.... just go to a public scale and find out what you are at....
