I had two other friends with modded up trucks and they went through tranny after tranny, i told them to get the trans command and now they haven't replaced trannies since (of course they also finally broke down and spent the money with ford to get the new tranny from them) but added the trans command to it and that was three years ago now. I sold my old truck to a good friend of mine and he has about 140,000 umm maybe more ( i had 90,000) on it so far with no problems with it, and now it is on 35's. When i owned it, we put over 50,000 towing a 40 foot gooseneck loaded at the max load maybe more....never had a problem (basically would put the go pedal on the floor and wouldn't lift till i was there only good for 75 with the weight i was carrying). One time the tranny temp gauge moved a little, had the tranny serviced and was fine and no more problem...by the way first service on it was at 65,000.... maybe i just got a good one...but with what i put it through it was a good truck ..still is...and the mods i did gave it plenty of power but seemed to be nice and reliable.
when i bought the new truck i went straight to banks for the new stuff, even though people told me there was more power or better power from other companies....new truck runs great too...
i make sure to put a nice free flowing exhaust and get some gauges to monitor temps...

from what i remeber it works on the transmission by increasing line pressures....this was on banks web page (The electronic module senses the load and commands the transmission to raise the hydraulic pressure accordingly. Light-throttle shifts are smooth and firm, while full-throttle or heavy-load driving produces solid, decisive shifts. Excessive clutch slippage is eliminated, extending transmission life.) it does pretty much what is says too. Pretty easy to install..you have to pull out three wires from the transmission harness, plug them into the trans command then install three wires into the trans harness from the transcommand..then screw it to the frame rail and plug in one other connector if i remember. been a while.

I have an 01 stroker that I have installed a Bully Dog 6 position switch, stainless steel exhaust, cold air intake and gauges...it runs great and gets better mileage...
I have found that the "flip switch" makes better power on the 7.3's vs. the programmer. The programmer definately works better on the 6.0's.
Regardless of who you buy from or what you decide, I agree with the rest, please add some gauges so that keep an eye on the vitals.
Feel free to browse my site to get some ideas.
