Went to the boat show in Tulsa and looked at one they had there. I liked what I saw. Very tempting.

Picked up an 08 SD brochure today and they do offer a 4.30 gear on the 450! It qualifies that w/ the 4..88 gear, hp is 325 and torque is 600 lb-ft. Otherwise the new diesel is 350 and 650 respectively!

Has anyone rode in a 08' F350 vs 08' F450. I am going to order one and like the higher towing capacity of the 450 but don't want to give up to much ride quality. It will be a daily driver as well as a tow rig.
Thanks

O.K. that raises another question do you "need" the 4.88 gear in the F-450???? and how much mpg would you loose????

Bob, this is just my opinion but unless U R towing HEAVY HEAVY stuff on a full time basis, can't imagine needing the 4.88 2 pull the boat here and there!

The 08 F450 rides smoother over the road than my 07 F350 with 7500 miles on it. What I liked about this truck was the over all feel of the truck, A lot of thought went into the engineering from all stand points. It does feel 5% larger in size (tire size) but drives almost like a 1/2 ton. It is 50% quieter but feels more ridgid when trying to toss it around. Sound isolation is vastly improved in wind noise at higher speeds, and overall engine noise is extremely quiet, one of my favorite part of the truck. The turning radius is what blew me away, super tight, and we all like that. The one I drove had the 4.88 gears and at 75mph (per my friend who bought my truck for the 500.) 3100rpms appears high. He said it was actually quieter than his 07 F350, and did not seem strained. The govenor is set at 88mph with this gear ratio. This is set up as the ultimate hauler, I believe over 24k can be towed with this set up. Im waiting until the F350's come in and will opt for the 4.10 like I have now or possibly 4.30 gears. Most I tow is 18k pounds and was pleased with my 07, but now am excited to get the 08. Comparable price for the 08's vs the 07's with the same equipment is 4-5k. Well worth the admission for what I feel will be truck of the year, hands down. Jeff
