No, just did a search on GM hitch failures and came across an RV/Travel Trailer site where he originally posted a couple years ago; got his username from one of the photos posted above. Like I said earlier, I just wanted to see what the whole story was behind the failure.
It sounds like the guy was putting a lot of stress on his setup, that it wasn't designed for. Metal fatigue over time, poor welds (a few experts looked at the photos and concluded poor welds), and a bad combination of events (odd braking angle) all played a part.
Even with some monster "weight distributing" setup like that Hensley thing, the guy was over GVW on a 3/4ton truck because of tongue weight.
At least all that broke was the receiver, at low speed. Who is it that always says: "that rig was looking for a hole"

I folded mine all the way to the ground on my 05 gmc dually. I wish I had taken a picture...it tops any of the pictures so far.....but I was too busy tring to drag my chit out of the road. Putnam XDR now lives where the GM POS used to reside.

I agree with the thinking of putting an hitch on a vehicle with higher towing capacity than the hitch itself, bad move.
The truck co's would be better off installing no hitch and letting the buyer get his own. Remove the liabilty risk of putting a $10 hitch on a $40k truck.

The 2500 Suburban and 2500 Avalanche are actually built on the same chassis. I saw the picture first on the Avalanche fan club website, so I made the erroneous assumption it was an Avalanche. My bad.
Bottom line I changed to a Putnam xdr also because the factory hitch flexs too much and causes the situation seen in the pic.

On my 07 2500 Burb the receiver height above ground is 23". My 01 Burb was 15". The level height for by MYCO is 14". I have to use a 9" drop insert to tow level. Also, no one has an up graded receiver available for the 07' Suburban.
