I pull my boat and trailer which weights in around 16000 lbs with a 5500 series Kodiak so the truck had the weight and brakes to handle stopping with out the trailer brakes but it scared me to the upgrade. I only boat in fresh water so salt was not the culprit. The upgrade was almost $2000 and I did it myself but for the piece of mind is well worth the expense. Myco made the kit and was really straight forward and carlyle made the electric pump. The axles are 10000 lb. capacity each and are a dual/dually set up. Hope this helps. Doug
how old was your elect set up......???

1999 Myco dually, dually never in salt and until 2002 the boat was always lifted off and had never been wet. I also remove and service the brakes and bearings every winter. Myco claimed electric brakes work great in a rather dry enviroment. I have them on my car trailer and they work fine. Doug

I have straight elec. brakes in fresh water and I have never had a problem. I have had both and would not go back to surge

No problem if you have the reverse solenoid installed.

Hooks to your reverse lights. As soon as you shift into reverse, it shuts off fluid push to your brakes.

I'm thinking of converting my trailer to electric (not electric/hydraulic). I had electrics on my Blackfin's trailer and they were the best trailer brakes I've ever had. I just wish the Fulton Sharkskins weren't so dang expensive! I'm looking at $640 plus shipping for 2 axles...
