I'm not going to comment on the new Ford but will make make a comment about the fords in general. I had the exact truck you have...03' Centennial. After an oil leak that could never be found and an innability to start when the temperature dipped below 35F (seriously...not plugged in it was physically incapable of starting if it was even 30 degrees overnight) I went and traded on a new Dodge. I talk to people like you that have had no issues. I wander if my Ford service was lacking (they could never fix my issues) or if some of us just had lemons. I looked at the new F450 but couldn't bring myself to buy another Navistar powered vehicle. I hope you have good luck if you purchase. The new truck drives awesome and turns like a Miata.

Well I hate to say this since everyone else seems so happy, but I don't like my 08 F-450. I traded my 06 F-350 because it left me stranded twice on the road while towing. The 08 has already left me stranded once while towing. That was for a split radiator, and although there hasn't been a second time yet, it did spend 10 days in the shop for exhaust issues. The side of my new truck (white) was black!!! I haven't really driven it much since they repaired it to see if they really corrected the problem. The fuel mileage is terrible, 11 on the highway unloaded at low 70's, and 7.5 pulling the boat at about 70. Good luck. I think I'm going to trade it on a new GMC or Dodge if the loss isn't too much to stomach.

Chuck, what you have is purpose built truck. The F450 comes with 4.88 gears, very few have the 4.30's. That is the culprit on the mileage. Also the 450 is heavier due to larger suspension, brakes and what ever else on there to make it what it is. I have 2 friends that did the same thing, went out and bought 450's, one traded on F350, with 4.10 gears and he is very happy with the mileage and the other traded on a 3500 GMC with 3.73 gears who is happy with the mileage but not the truck, due to many issues. BUT he is a Ford guy, and just is really a complainer. The 08 250/350's come with 3.73 to 4.10's on the avarage, with a 3.55 gear out about now. Some info on this www.dieselstop.com Check it out, dont know how it would effect towing, some possible disadvantages.
I have 1 07 Chevy and 1 07 Ford, both good trucks, + and - on both. Drive them all and see if you can tow with them, that is where you will see the difference. If the F450's would come with 4.10 gears or 3.90's I would consider getting one, cause the one I drove for 2 days was nice, but mileage was not so nice. My 07 F350 pulls the Nortech fine, just ordered again one of each for the 08 model year. Good Luck Jeff

The truck does tow well and is quieter, and does turn better. The mileage sucks but really isn't my big problem with the truck. Getting stranded is what bothers me with relatively new equipment.
