It's time to buy a new truck. I have the 03 Centenial addition crewcab 6.0L now. I am looking at the new diesel and was wandering how it has been lately. I'm not interested in what you have heard, I want to here from the guy's that have them. I don't want to here from you rocks either. I put on a lot of miles towing and I have had every brand and the Ford has by far been the best for me. When I bought the 6.0 liter I heard from everyone how bad it was going to be. I have 200,000 miles and the only thing I have done is an EGR valve and the dealer flashed the comp. a couple times. Fuel mileage is a big issue (obviosly at $3.65 a gallon) so I would like to here about that too. I am looking at 3.73 with alot of highway use at around 72-74mph empty and around 12,000lbs. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I have searched this subject and have not found that much. Thanks, Jeremy.

I'm not going to comment on the new Ford but will make make a comment about the fords in general. I had the exact truck you have...03' Centennial. After an oil leak that could never be found and an innability to start when the temperature dipped below 35F (seriously...not plugged in it was physically incapable of starting if it was even 30 degrees overnight) I went and traded on a new Dodge. I talk to people like you that have had no issues. I wander if my Ford service was lacking (they could never fix my issues) or if some of us just had lemons. I looked at the new F450 but couldn't bring myself to buy another Navistar powered vehicle. I hope you have good luck if you purchase. The new truck drives awesome and turns like a Miata.

I bought a new f450 at the end of the season after considering many options (Heavy duty commited tow vehicle, Medium duty conversion, etc.) and test towing with a Pete 379, a FL Sportchassis, and the Ford. I drove an excursion diesel as my daily driver and towed with an International (Heavy) with a c12 previously. I bought the f450 with 4.88 rear for legal towing and traded in the excursion with the idea that if I didn't tow with it, I'd just use it as a daily driver. I have towed with it only four times but it has been great. As a daily driver, it has been great. It is much quieter, smoother, and more maneuverable than the excursion. I get around 12 mpg mixed driving (mostly below 70 hwy and in town). It is governed at 82. Towing I got 6-8 mpg (but the boat on the trailer weighs just below 21K). Overall I have been very happy.

I have a F350 Crew Cab 6.4 3.73gears loaded.
Sold my 05 6.0.
This new truck is SO much better than the old. Only gripe: Due to EPA crap, It does not get as good fuel economy. I am seeing 14 mpg w/ a mix of city / hwy driving. Old 6.0 would get 16 mpg.
But the new truck tows SO much better!!
Plus there are no problem w/ 6.4 either. Buy one - you'll like it.

Bill, that's good to know. I have had 6 - 6.0 with out problems, some with over 125k. My 07 dually that Im trading in/or selling out right is getting around 14-15.2 but that's with 4.10 gears. I just ordered a 08 dually with 3.73, so it sounds like my milaege will be about the same. Thats good to hear. jeff

My 05 f350 6.0 just had a $3k engine problem; cracked timing chain case-rare, fixed under warranty. That truck has 83k miles and I don't drive it. My 08' 6.4 F350srw 4x4 has 20k miles and is awesome, no trouble. Quiet, powerful and so smooth; only complaint-mileage...16.5 hw, 14 around town, 11 towing 10k. Hope this helps.....& the factory gps/touchscreen media is sweet!

Thanks guy's. I think I will order one next week. Before they went to ultra low sulfer I was getting 18-19mpg empty. With the new fuel and mixed with K1 I've only been getting 15-16 so the mileage sounds pretty close. Anyone know a dealer who wants to sell. The ones around here are thinking it's 3 years ao and want sticker minus factory incentives. It's not going to happen. I'm in Maine but I'd travel about anywhere if the price was right.

Give Matt a call, the guy above your last post.
I just ordered a 08 F350 dually (my personal truck) from my close friend who owns the dealership. My other buddy sales manager at the GMC dealership gave me his dually to drive home yesterday and let me hook it up to the boat. (I buy 2-3 trucks a year). I liked the power of the Duramax, slightly more than the F350, trannies about the same, other than I liked the 6-speed auto on the GM...BUT the suspension like Ive said previously is no match (not even close) for what I tow. Even driving around not pulling, Ford has really improved, about 5-10% off as comfortable as the GM. Interior Ive always given the nod to the GM, not this year. They are all good trucks, +/- on them all. Ive just not had enough experience on the Dodges other than 2, and they were 99, and 01 models. They look like they have come along way, motor has always been their strong point. Im going to check them out next week.
Now to launch the boat, and put in the boat houseD
