I have a 4.88 rear but I had to get that to legally tow my boat (19K limit with 4.30, 24K with 4.88). I get just over 12 mpg combination of highway and town.

When was your truck built? I believe that Ford changed some of there towing capacities at the beginning of 08,,4.30 or 4.88 it didnt matter on a straight pull trailer,,I'll check there website

I just checked my dealers/Fords website on towing capacities for 08 F-450 4X4 auto pickups, not cab & chassis as of 01/01/08 straight pull/conventional 16k with either gear ratio 4.30 or 4.88,,,5th wheel is 20k for the 4.30 and 24k for the 4.88 I was told Ford backed off on their gvw ratings starting the begining of the new year, FYI

B&W Gooseneck 24k dropdown with a pintle hook, looks like a mini version of the heavy haulers moving heavy road machinery with semis on dropdown trailers

has anyone else put a big hp chip on the 08 ford yet , I was talking to a guy in maimi last week, and he had a duramax, sent his computer off to get re-programed to delete the EGR sensor, and he put a chip on it and said that it ran really really good, has anyone thought about doing this with the 6.4, because I am really thinking about doing the same thing with my 08' ford!
