Actually the post/thread is "Duramax or powerstroke",,,,,have you ever driven/rode in a 4500/5500 unladen? you better have air-ride everything! the new Duramax's are marginal at best for power compared to my 06 LBZ Dually that I regret getting rid of,, theres a reason my 08 Chev Duramax is in the classified with 2300 miles on it ,mainly not enough LEGAL GCVW, everybody has towed over there tow-rigs capacity,I just wont do it anymore, too much to lose among other reasons,,,sorry for the rant

I have an 08 F350 Powerstroke ext cab 12k. I'm getting 10.2 miles per gallon driving to work and back, and im getting 9.8 towing the two place enclosed snowmobile trailer. Cant wait to see what i get towing the boat. I have my brothers 08 silverado duramax in the garage tonight, I hit the mileage button on my way into the house, 16.5mpg. Hes got 1400 miles on it. Drive them both I think the choice will be obvious.

I have been a ford guy for a long time. I had the 7.3 and two 6.0s. I always put a chip and exhaust on the trucks. I have not had good luck with the 6.0s. What is the better truck to go with? I hear that all the 2008 diesels are getting bad mpg. What are the 2008 duramaxes and 6.4 powerstrokes getting for mpg? Has anyone put chips in these trucks. And any problems with these 2008? Any info would be great. Thanks Heath

Thats because its in a dodge
It is a good truck, and now cheap! I was quoted 33k for brand new quad cab cummins 3/4 ton short bed. Just don't trust the 6.7 yet, and a die hard cummins guy I know (he runs a very large generator company) who used to swear by them won't buy one. Hes had a new one every year till 06.
My suggestion on all 3 brands, get an 06 or non-emissions 07 and wait a few more years on 08's and newer.
Either way, the duramax has a huge advantage. However, do your own reasearch. www.dieselplace.com www.thedieselstop.com

BTW, I have owned a couple Chevy trucks in the 80's & 90's and that is why I prefer Ford now....everyboby has their own experience with each manufacturer...Ford is the winner here.

Well at least you aren't afraid to state your opinion....however, you are in the minority. I have heard of problems with a few of the Ford diesels, but my experience has been exceptional. I've owned 7 Fords since 99' with no trouble; 1 million combined miles and still haulin'.

Lets not forget the machining issue in a whole years worth of transmissions that caused every one to blow up, and sit for months at a dealer because there were no replacements available.
I do drive a 2000 f-350 with a 7.3, and have driven and worked on all the model duramax's and fords/dodges.
