Default duramax or power stroke?

I have been a ford guy for a long time. I had the 7.3 and two 6.0s. I always put a chip and exhaust on the trucks. I have not had good luck with the 6.0s. What is the better truck to go with? I hear that all the 2008 diesels are getting bad mpg. What are the 2008 duramaxes and 6.4 powerstrokes getting for mpg? Has anyone put chips in these trucks. And any problems with these 2008? Any info would be great. Thanks Heath

OK...My 08' F350 srw cc 6.4 has 25k miles on it. Gets 14.5 around town & 16-17 highway; no problems what-so-ever...I had a 7.3 w/240k miles, great truck, 6litre has 95kmiles also no trouble. Got the 08' in May 07' and LOVE it! The thing rides so nice my wife would rather drive it than her Eddie Bauer Explorer....the 6.4 is nice and quiet.

Picking one Ford over another is like picking a beating over an azz kicking, neither option is an improvement

There is no choice. Duramax. Proven, reliable and very easy to get power out of.

Not to mention the 6 speed Allison behind it. Can't go wrong with that combo...

I pull 27,400#'s total weight truck and trailer every weekend across the mountains (check out the full pimp toyhauler thread). I have 3:73 gears and 34" tall 245/75/19.5 tires and wheels. A friend has a new 450 ford with 4:88's and 32" 225/75/19.5's. He is grossing 26,200#'s. I can easily pull away from him on hills and flat ground. I also get 9mpg loaded and he gets about 6mpg with both of us towing like retarded people wfo. He is in the back always. He will also tell you that the 450 will not hold a candle to the duramax. I say all of this to point out that the dmax does all this with basically a highway gear. The 34" tires alone reduce the gear ratio substantially. I am thinking of changing to 4:56 gears....but it really just is not necessary.

if you're just needing a 3/4 ton, GO WITH DURAMAX or CUMMINS.. my 70,000 mile 6.0 is getting a new motor thanks to fords warranty program.. we have had 9 ford trucks and ZERO issues besides batteries and starters (typical over 300k mileage) until the 6.0 came out and its been in the shop SEVERAL times finally just shelling out the entire motor.

If you need something larger than a 3/4 ton, research the Sterling Bullet. That'll be what im tradin mine in on when it comes down off the lift..

oh, by the way, my truck towed or hauled almost every mile of those 70k miles.. too expensive to not make her work for her keep.. our pre-'02 models all have over 200k on them and have had ZERO issues. The ONE 6.4 we have has had good luck with the heavy towing, good fuel economy and great looks.. but only about 10k miles on it so far.. we'll see....

Then buy an rxt, or chevy 4500/5500. Much better options than f-450 when towing over 26k combined.

Thought this post was about 3/4 and 1 tons?
