Actually, in the last 10 years (1999-2008)GM had 1124 recalls, and Ford had 718 (including all brands by both makes).
The data is available from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/

Forty-one of 44 Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models - or 93 percent - scored average or better in predicted reliability, compared with 67 percent of Chrysler LLC's models and 49 percent of General Motors Corp.'s models...

Actually I'd rather have the cruise disabled on my ford than the unwanted abs activation on my chevy. GM did recall the chevy for that but the dealer isn't too happy about doing the work for me.

Yo boss!! Shoot me your VIN via PM or email - I have a fellow boater who's a Parts Director at a L/M store and he has them on the shelf.
I'll ship you one and you can take it to the dealer and have them knock it out....

I can't say anything about GM - but being that I've worked for/with Ford dealerships for 17yrs, then switched to Mercedes - Mercedes has their chit together when comes down to a recall. I came in one morning and found 30 something airbags included with my daily stock order - I thought WTF? did I do now..... being a Mercedes newbie and all....
Come to find out they pre-shipped all the parts for the vehicles we sold on a recall being sent out later that week.... wow.
Ford NEVER did that in the 17yrs I was associated with them.....
Do I drive one?? Hell Yeal ... MB hasn't come up with a truck to pulls 9500lbs ...... yet.
