Very true! My Excursion 7.3 tells me I get 24-25mpg, but when figuring it out, its really like 15-17, maybe 19 in the summer, downhill, downwind!

don't trust the factory mileage computer if you add a programmer...vette131

Dodge overheads are wrong even if the motor is stock. Every Dodge owner knows that . Mine shows 3+mpg more than it really is and it's never had a programmer or tuner on it.

A very good friend of mine bought an 05 3500 Duramax dually with the 4.10 gears in it, and it gets 21-22 mpg's on the highway. I did'nt believe it till he took me on a trip from Michigan to almost Iowa and back to prove it to me. AND, we cruised at 75 mph most of the way. We towed a 46 Cig with it, and it was showing 14.5 mpg. The next truck will be a chevy duramax for sure.
You cannot use the DIC to determine the actual fuel mileage. The best highway mileage (hand-calculated) that I ever pulled down on my 2004 Chevy 2500 HD crew cab with 3.73 gears was 17 and change when it was new. And you had to run the speed limit to get that mileage. You ran 70 + and the mileage took a big nose dive. Towing 8,200 lbs. it would only get about 11.5 MPG.

Running a 60HP tune (Predator) in my 2004 Dmax (LLY) I got about 15.8 - 16.4 MPG depending how fast I was running. DIC said I was knocking down a solid 22MPG!!

I get 12 mpg with my f450 and 4:88 but only 8 mpg towing my 47 Fountain. If you are mostly towing that 10 mtr., I think you'd like the Chevy, but if you're commonly towing a 46 Cig, I don't think you'll like it. I've towed my boat with a 3500 chevy a few times and it hasn't been very good.

You need at least a medium duty truck to tow the big boats. Hot Duck had a Pete to tow his 45Apache.

Glad you liked the Duramax....146K miles on mine, no complaints yet!

But don't get in the habit of towing a 46 RR with a 1 ton truck.....the owner of American Muscle 3 found out the hard way it isn't enough truck to stop a 46 RR. Boat was being towed in Miami with an F350 and traffic stopped short, boat ended up jackknifing the rig, boat landed in the median on its bottom!

F350 vs the 3500 gmc the Ford tows the boat vs the boat driving the truck. The Ford suspension is the best of the big 3...only when it comes to towing. The GM is smoother when not towing.. The Dodge is in between but the worst on uneven pavement.
