Don't worry, it is a great truck, the Cummins is a Real Diesel Engine.

Big changes are coming to the Cummins in the near future. They're working on controlling diesel particulate matter inside the engine through fuel delivery instead of through the exhaust so that DPFs will no longer be necessary. Single or dual overhead cams are in the mix too.

I see power levels at or above the new Ford Scorpion diesel(420/750) coming soon for the stock Cummins.

Dodge has also addressed the interior shortcomings in the 2010 models. The new Laramie is every bit as luxurious as anything Ford and GM have to offer, and with the new Hydroform vibration dampeners in the C pillars, the ride of the dually is almost as good empty as the 1/2 ton truck.

500hp would add at least $10,000 to the price of a new truck. The transmission upgrade alone would be $4000+ then $2500-$3000 for the twin turbo system. Lots of other upgrades would be necessary as well.

Yes the new Ferd Scorpion will make 420/750 from what I read in the mags. Dodge will step up for sure.

Good luck with your new 04. I have one and love it. Same truck as your but no exhaust yet. I have 86K and it is just now getting broken in. I pull 13-14K on the bumper and it does just fine. If it doesnt have it, go get a pyro and tranny gauge for keeping track on things. I have an old bully dog power pup programer and it made a huge difference in performance. I keep ming on tow/econ mode. If you get a 305 size tire (33"), your mpg will drop.

Best of luck
