You Might want to wait a month or two and check out the new 2011 Duramax when it comes out. They are now 400HP and tow 20k. I have a 05 Duramax that I bought new and never had a problem with it. Jeff Wurl

However, I think Ford's new motor will be a big improvement over the last one, but the first year sure would make me nervous to buy if I planned to keep it past the warranty!

My wifes family owns a diesel garage, working on both 8-lug's and big rigs. A couple of years ago I decided to buy my first diesel and wisely asked their advice on which maker to go with. They said that they see the most problems with the Duramax followed by the Power Stroke with the Dodge Cummins having the least problems. Their opinion is that the V-8 configuration just doesn't compare to the inline 6 , as a matter of fact the older big rigs used to run V-8 diesels but years ago they all went to the inline 6. So if the V-8's were any good wouldn't big rig's be running them? Just thought that you might be interested in the opinion of a diesel garage that seems them on a daily basis. Also if you read many 8-lug magazines you'll see that a lot of people competing in truck pulls are replacing their Power Stroke with a Cummins.
