has anyone went from a diesel to an ecoboost?

I've been hearing about EB problems, particularly in damp/humid conditions. Some of the problems are serious, some just an occasional misfire. I believe a TSB is just starting to become known on this issue.

Love this thread. Lots of great info, Ford should link to this from their website.
Has anyone turned one up yet? Tuning? More boost? Airflow mods? How about mileage? Anyone piling the miles on? How many miles have you guys put on your trucks? I love the Ecoboost trucks, and I'm a Chevy guy. Especially for those of us who have to tow at higher elevations and would prefer not to buy a diesel. Are any of you getting deep discounts at purchase time? I've been building and pricing/ shopping online, and wow, they seem to be fetching diesel money. If they are equally priced, I would lean toward the diesel, regardless of the price of maintenance and fuel. I would like a truck I can own for 200K+ miles, and I feel more comfortable doing that in a Diesel than a gasser, not to mention resale on a truck with 200K on the odometer. |

I saw it on one towing forum, and the F-159 forum.

Havent tuned mine yet or anything and dont plan on it. From what I was told and from what I have heard is if you play with it plan on playing the fiddler if something breaks. Ford has gotten real nasty about after market stuff and warranty claims, I would not want to push it. As for the discounts I got 8k off of mine in SEP of 11, buddy bought in April of 12 and got I think 4-5k. Best time of the year would be aug-oct for the older models, other than that just keep an eye out on dealers that may want to move inventory. As for price I dont know what you are pricing to make it close to diesel price. My XLT with with every option to get the max 11,300 towing, chrome package, and a few other things was 40k before the discount, buddies above average equipped Fx4 was 40-41 before his discount. So I guess if you got expensive taste and need a Lariat, platinum or one with quad cab its going to cost ya. But I would argue you take an equal half ton equipped to a 250 diesel the diesel is still going to run you 10-12k more. Last year I saved around 2500 bucks switching from a 08 f250 diesel to the 11 Eco I got. Thats fuel mileage, cheaper fuel, oil changes etc. Assuming you keep a vehicle for 200k thats probably 11-15 years of ownership so over 12 years plus the diesel costing you 10k more your talking over a 30k savings. |

I'd feel better getting an extended on anything that has the IC and a myriad of electronics and software that could go haywire. It sounds like how good a time you have depends on how good your dealer service department is. Which is the case with anything nowadays.
