Wow soldier, you diesel price is high up there I haven't paid over $4 in a long time.
Does the Eco need premium? That is the problem with my wife's boosted AMG, it does and that cost just as much as diesel.
I am lucky, I have a company car so my truck sits most of the time. The daughter has a Eco in her Escape, pretty nice ride.
For pure mileage I believe ford will be bring in a Eco 3 cyl for the festa,,,,, screw the hybrids!

Yeah diesel has been over 4 bucks for about two years and probably averages towards 4.20, with spikes close to 4.50. So kind of why I got rid of the hog. Costing me close to 15 bucks a day just to go 30-35 miles round trip to work every day

The diesel prices continue to be high in many areas due to the exports. Tons of diesel is exported into the foreign markets, which increases prices here. That's a big reason for the pipeline interest.
I'm surprised the eco pickups don't do better mileage-wise. I know regular V8 pickups, depending on gearing, can get 19/20 id you're easy on them. But the eco is amazing for torque and power. The real key is in the gearing, and if you have a huge load, you need the gears.
I know around here diesel is an astronomical premium to regal octane gas. But last week gas was 3.45, premium gas was 50 cents higher, and diesel was another 25 cents or more per gallon above that.

The worst thing about high diesel prices are that about 95% of everything you buy at some point rides in a trailer pulled by a Semi,,,,,,,
I was coming back from north GA today and never seen it over $4 but did notice one place in FL.
Like I said becuase my truck sets I am lucky and don't fill up much. Maybe they should do a Eco V8 in a F250/350!

I own a 12 valve cummins with 400+ HP and 1000 Ft pounds , gets 25 on highway empty . Are you really telling me this gas engine can out perform a cummins ? I'm sure they perform well but no way will they perform like a diesel . Lets see them with 200 K in real world towing everyday ( not that BS ford stunt !)

Its performs like a healthy big block of old with v6 mileage or a "small" diesel- but not a semi or topkick engine.
Curious at what speed your rig gets 25 unladen.....
Throw up a pict of this beast of yours sounds awesome. My rig only has 325 and 880Ft lb.

I have 37 inch tall tires so my RPM is 2 k @ 75 MPH
I chimed in because I have read here that a few diesel owners gave them up for this engine . I'm sure its wonderful but not for real towing . Keep in mind that cummins peak TQ is 1800 RPM ( 12 Valve ) In stock form I got almost 18 MPH towing a 28 ft enclosed trailer with a 575 Ferrari inside ( not mine )
I only get that mileage because is modified , crazy how on a diesel you do more mods and the mileage keeps increasing
I will agree that ford has finally stepped up to plate as turbocharging is the way to go .
However not for a second do I believe Fords claim about that 200 K engine that was tortured and still " looked like new inside " Hell I know 3 ford explorer's ( FORD EXPLODER ) that the trans fell out @ 60-70 K miles . And those trucks weren't tow vehicles

EB does feel like a small diesel I know I own 2 of them (other makes of diesels) and this thing makes a chit ton of huevos at very low RPM for what it is - and when towing within its envelope it is a fine machine with a great demeanor and a leap forward in its class of vehicles.
Actually I can state with certainty that 3.5 Ecoboost handily outperforms Mercedes Benz turbo diesel 3.0 L in my new Dually Sprinter Van Which has a gem of an engine.
Real towing? I prefer the term "right tool for the right job" so I agree and disagree.
Is it the right rig for a 42 foot boat. No.
If you stay in its envelope which is what the vast majority of the leisure boat market does. It is the right rig for 30 ish foot boat when you want one vehicle to do it all.
Carry people confortable for long distances with a high level of built in cabin technology, Tow, cruise with impunity and tons of reserve, ride quiet enough to work in while towing, park inside a parking lot at the airport, and when you have to give up the keys to something to your dumb S*&^ brother in law, be afordable, and CHEAP to maintain if not absolutely maintenance free outside of tire brakes and oil changes.
When adding these to the mix your rig likely doesnt score as high.
Torture?
Yes and no.
If we are completely realistic about it we can use the term excersized at design capacity for a worst case but possibly realistic life then - yes.
"Torture" to me is over revving, under revving, overheating, oil starving. THATS torture.
It also had a hole at the front end of leakdown- but because its actually nannied down its got enough window to fatten it up and dyno at virtually identical numbers to new.
In these "hard" but still electronically controlled tests. The truck never experience any of the above "torture" conditions.
Somebody like Alexi at boostpower is going to cut one of these things loose here pretty soon and well see what it can pump out on race gas and with all the electronic nannies set to kill.

Dave ,
I agree but I have been around long enough to know that miles and yrs will determine if this is a good engine . Sure they can put 200k on a engine in a few weeks in a lab or test track but there is no way that I'm aware to replicate the yrs and yrs of what all engines go thru in the real world .
