Ford copied the manual electric shift function of the Allison for their later model trucks.
I really like my Allison trans. The cooler line leaked, which several others have had, but the new line was cheap in my book. I replaced it and all is well.
My Allison is still getting an aluminum pan. I do that with all my trucks anyway for more cooling and capacity.

My lines only leak when I first get it out in the spring and the weather is colder.

I did a little repair on the radiator end of the lower line and all seemed well. Then on the coldest day we have had this winter it leaked again. Seems the cold effects this rubber line they used too much.
I already had the new line sitting on the bench but hadn't put it on. So I had to freeze my butt off and get it installed before I headed up to Ohio. Glad I did. It was only 19° when I got there so they would have leaked enough to get me concerned.
Yours do well to only leak when cold if you don't drive in the cold much.

This truck has sat a lot of its life and never been drove in the winter. I bought in march of 2010 and it only had 16k miles (its an 06'). And it had only been driven 1000miles from 2007 till then...
It had a lot of other leaks from sitting tho I assure you LOL

mine's an '06 LBZ Crew bought new- presently @ 12,8xx miles
as far as the tranny cooler lines it's not the hose (although it's not the best) it's the chinese crimp on the hard line over the hose
they WILL all leak eventually especially in cold climates
do yourself a favor and hit a local line shop and fix it for good (most shops know this project well) as the OEM replacements will end up leaking too with a still inadequately spec'd Chinese crimp.
and if you get one with lines that have been pissing for 5 years, check the lower rad hose for ATF induced deterioration/delam!

they typically don't leak when the fluid warms up
The 6 speed is recommended by reputable sources to be on the low side of full on the stick anyway LOL
DO NOT fill or overfill on the stick the Ally 6

it's the high "cold" fluid pessures in the line and the cold contracted hose in the inadequate crimp over it that makes 'em seep when cold

I cut the mfgr crimp off and used a clamp for a while. It seemed to have it fixed until that cold morning here then it leaked again.
I noticed the barbs on the nipple were extremely small too. I have never seen barbs that small on a hose this size. It struck me as strange at first and now that you mention this issue is not repairable with the OE lines it makes sense. When ever I get the next leak I will use aftermarket parts and fix it. I don't like little gremlins popping out on me.

I have an 04.5 LLY with 195k miles on it. No major issues so far. Then again, when I replace it, I will probably go with the ecoboost as diesels are too expensive now and all the benefits are a thing of the past with the EPA requiring all of their power and mileage robbing non sense.

Ok, just test drove this truck last weekend. Not the lbz but still nice and under 100k. Tell me what u think. Very clean truck. Dealer says the guy used it for a car not a truck. Traded it in on a 1500. Carfax is clean with one owner.
