I haven't done that yet, I'll look in to it!
Certainly AC does drag but this engine seems to drop MPG much more than my V8 vehicles. |
I wanted to ask where the gentleman heard ecoboost was giving ford lots of problems? They sell 50,000+ f150's a month and majority are ecoboost so if they have a couple dozen trucks that have issues that's actually equivalent to almost zero issues at all.

Just got my Sunsation Dominator back from the shop and pulled it for the first time with my new EcoBoost Max Tow. I gotta say, I couldn't be happier with going for the EcoBoost. Plenty of power for the big hills coming back from Full Throttle Marine and I never felt like the boat was pushing the truck around on big turns.
Stopping power is very good as well. Enough so that I thought my brakes were working on the trailer. Took it right to Discount Tire for new tires, as soon as the tires were off I saw my brake lines hanging. Apparently they broke loose and judging from the rust on the discs...they have been inactive for a loooong time. But the truck handled it just fine. I guess my EoH isn't an upgrade anymore and now a necessity. Very glad I didn't go with an F-250 or 2500. The EcoBoost is a great ride for every day work and handles the boat perfectly. All while getting 12 MPG from Spicewood, TX with all the hills. I imagine the ride to Kemah, TX for the Texas Outlaw Challenge should do easily more than 12. My preference is the max tow.
After having towed my 7500 pound boat trailer combo in both a 355 truck and a max tow truck I'd stick with the max tow truck and eat the few MPG in favor of the power. I could get 21.5 easily at 65-70, the max tow truck was hard pressed to break 19. An ecoboost trip in 105 heat combined with hills and Max Tow. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bwK01ljZnc Uncle Dave |
I've never even been close to 19 MPG with my Max Tow...mine seems to hang around 16. All the speed limits around here have you driving between 70-85 and I imagine that's a big part of it. I bet if I lived somewhere like Colorado, where I grew up, where all the speed limits are 55 that it would be getting much better mileage.

I can get 19 in that white truck in the video at 65 -70 what I call "in town" freeway, but its right lane grandpa soft foot tricks that get it and at the first whiff of hills it drops.
On the I5 at 75-85 it plummets to 15-17. UD |
I wouldn't buy an Ecoboost if Ford gave me the money to purchase it. There are numerous issues with this motor and borderline class action law suits coming Fords way. I would be stay away, stay far away. I can tell you two local dealerships to me that have put two new motors each in an F150 within the last 6months. Do a search, and you'll see the major issues on these trucks......

I don't care about your opinion about EcoBoost...I do really want to see a bunch of pictures of your new Sunny though. :) I bet she screams with those new engines. Congrats on the new boat.

Real nice set up Capt!! Congrats on the 383 build.

Yes. It flat out boogies! I do not have the ability to post pictures on here. I'll work on something though.
But seriously, be careful with those Ecoboosts! :) |
