IMHO you should get a 2500 of some sort for that size boat. I am not one of these guys who think you need a 550 to pull over 10k but a half ton just won't cut it for that boat. I'm just guessing but it has to weigh 11-12k with the trailer minimum. A SRW 2500 would be a better choice just for the tongue weight/suspension and better brakes. My boat fully fueled on the trailer is in the 9500-10000 range and I pull with both a 2500 Dmax and a new 1500 5.3 6speed I am leasing. The 1500 is fine and I have no problems towing but it is all I would ever want to pull with it safely. The 2500 pulls it like its not even there.

I towed my 33 ol back from Va with a new 13' F150 with 5.0. Trans temp only rose 5 degrees and it did well!! I now tow with the wife's 2011 Expedition rated for 9200 and tows good, trailer brakes work great, it will drag truck down launch if you don't take it easy.
Farthest I tow is to Biloxi which is 45min ride but tow at 65 mph only.
Now with that said, I do want to upgrade when I pay my jeep JKU off, but need something that can take some miles as i commute into nawlins for 26k+ a year. Will be looking at F250s b/c i would like a diesel for miles, otherwise I could get a f150, 1500 or ram that are rated for over 10k with tow package..
Btw, when did you leave Ms? I was just up there (New Albany) last week!!

moved November 1st for a new job based in little rock . worked out good because i always loved Ar. great water over here ! still plan to visit pickwick once or twice next year though .

looks like the wife may be getting to trade the F150 for a tahoe , and ill be getting an older hd tow rig . kinda stinks cause i just got that truck in october , but i love tahoes too , and ill take anything in decent shape to my boat with . selling our 09 altima thats paid for so at least i will have cash for my next truck .thanks for all the input .

The problem with these threads, is they are simply opinion based. Some guys simply don't know how close they are to disaster. They figure if the truck got the trailer to speed, made it to the lake and back, then it's just fine. Not realizing their soccer mom c rated tires were on the verge of explosion. The rear tires are looking like smashed balloons, fronts you can slip a feeler gauge under. The rear axle is burning the paint off the diff cover, and you need a dust mask to avoid breathing in the brake lining material. Having to correct the steering wheel every 4 milliseconds is normal, and the commercial says it can tow it.
But since we are giving opinions I'll give mine. And that is, a 32 active thunder, or a 33 outlaw, have no business behind a F150, expedition, or any 1/2 ton for that matter. I never understood how guys want a big boat , but refuse to get the proper tow vehicle. If ya can't upgrade the truck, ya shouldn't upgrade the boat. If money is tight, sell the newer 1/2 ton and get and older 3/4 or 1 ton.

It's my understanding that the 1500HD and regular 2500 is the same truck. I've heard the 1500HD was a 4 door short bed and the 2500 was an extended cab long bed but same truck with different badging. GM was doing all kinds of crazy things with there trucks back in the early 2000's, mixing old body style with new interiors, putting different badging on basically the same truck. The 2500HD on the other hand had the larger frame than the 2500, which made it sit about 2" taller and had full floating rears.
