Tow vehicle.....long bed or short bed?? Help!!
#11
1) I won't buy another short bed truck. They are just too easy to fill up. Now that I have a Harley, I like being able to take that with me on trips. That's not really feasible with a short bed truck; and definitely not while towing. (tailgate down interferes with trailer)
2) The more wheelbase for towing, the better.
3) If you have the little flag mirrors, upgrade to the full size, extendable ones. They are all over eBay.
4) I have these on my same era Powerstroke Ford as well, and they are actually the mirrors I use the most. http://www.qwks.com/cbetr/\

5) The only thing I look out the back window for when towing is to see if the cockpit cover is still on
6) IF you jump from an extended cab to a full crew cab, your rearward facing ability is going to be decreased drastically. You will not be able to turn around in the driver's seat, and see very well as the rear cab wall being further away impedes your vision.
7) Invest in a camera system/head unit. Get one that mounts on top of the bumper or across the two top license plate bolts. They are worth every penny; and really are not too expensive. I have mine rigged to a toggle switch under the dash, along with two Rigid rear facing hi-po LED lights. I can flip on my camera and lights at any time; not wired to the reverse switch. Cruising down the highway at night, I can flip on the switch and ensure my coupler is all in good order; not to mention the assistance it offers when hitching up.

I agree, short for me!
Especially when traveling far distances. Its a pain in the a$$ maneuvering a long rig at food stops, gas stops & even at the resorts!
We always put our luggage & stuff in the boat or trailer when traveling too, so bed size is not a problem in most cases.
Everybody has their own reasons & opinions, but thats mine.

I'm sure this will run some wrong but to me it sounds like some people need to learn how to drive/tow. It is not a preference. Physics alone says power/truck capacity being properly rated for the tow the longer the better. Not saying shortbeds can't do the job but longer is better especially on long/higher speed runs

I'm not arguing that a Long Bed doesn't have it's advantages, but a short bed does fine for me.
It's a preference in my case....I don't like the looks of a CC with a long bed, plain and simple.....That's why I have a CC with a shortbed....
If I preferred the looks of the long bed, that's what I would have...
Too each is own.....
ETA: And if you can't handle with a short bed, you probably don't need to be towing with a long bed either...

I'm having trouble using my mirrors backing up my tong steer 56" hay trailer and another thought about mirrors is.....and I don't know why I didn't think sooner........................ is to put a ball on the front of the truck that way you can see everything..... put the mirrors on each side of the back of the boat....Problem solved! I'm working on a Patent pending so don't dare try to stole my idea.

If I had a dedicated tow vehicle, that I only used for towing, I'd have a long bed.
Unfortunately, unless my powerball numbers come up tonight, I don't have that option.
I do much more driving not towing, than I do pulling a load.
