I pulled an 11k pound dump trailer with a v10 for years. No problem what so ever. I just wish they would put bigger tanks on the 3/4 ton on up trucks. I hate having to stop for fuel.

That’s my plan for my 5.3 1/2 ton GMC.

Im only pulling approx 7k lbs but at 80, it likes gas, let alone in the mountains.

There`s also after market gas tanks that go under the truck but they are triple the price.

not may companies make a tank like that for gasoline, and I also believe you need some permits to transport over 50 gallons. Big difference in hazards carrying that much diesel vs gasoline

I’ve got a couple of extra poly, bellow deck gas tanks that I’m looking at for a temporary fix.

Smaller capacity like 15 - 18 gals.

My thought is an auxiliary pump in the bed w/a feed line to an adaptor in place of the filler cap and a switch on the dash.

When gas gauge gets low, Ill refill the tank w/o stopping.

We do a lot of trips from here in Ohio to Fla.
Where we normally go is 17 - 17 1/2 hrs straight through including 3 - 4 gas stops.
I do it non stop.

If I cut MPG in half pulling the boat, that’ll end my bonsai non stop trips due to added fuel stops.

I think this might work.

If we take a wk off, a trip to Fla is doable and worthwhile.
If we burn 2 days down and 2 back, it ain’t.

I know plenty of friends that haul open and enclosed car haulers with gasser 3/4 ton trucks and have no issues. I actually searched for a clean gas truck before i settled on my duramax.

Here in the Pacific Northwest the 2500/3500 market is dominated by diesels. Then recently when I traveled to Florida I noticed lots of gas 2500/3500s, in fact I saw more gas than diesel. I was wondering why, then it hit me. Duh, Florida is flat, and gas is cheap. In the Pacific Northwest everything is a steep hill and gas is expensive!

YOur pump and filler cap idea sounds like an fire ball waiting to happen

Mine fills the tank via a Tee in the filler hose. Keeps the main tank always full thru gravity. There`s a shut off at the tank.
Someone asked me one time if my fuel gauge is broke cause it never moved from full in 7 hrs on the way to LOTO
