Slippery,

I want to say I appreciate your explanation, I was on the OEM supply end for close to 20 years in two different times and roles. I am not sure how old you are but if you remember starting in the 80's everyone went to the just in time delivery mentality so there was NO extra parts inventory.

This works great when everything is working right. I do believe of all things, what the pandemic (real or not) brought up is just how thin the supply chain really was. In the 2000's I spent a lot of my time in China since I supplied GM and that was where a lot of engineering and production was. The amount of supply we and the world gets from China is crazy and biting everyone. This is not something that can be fixed quick, we have been doing the opposite for 40 years.

As for supplying the trucks it is still very frustrating when some people order almost the same truck 4-6 months after another and get it delivered while the first sits and waits.

Yes, 2023 Corvettes have been on the ground for a couple weeks. They are all over eBay, as well as a few other makes/models.

OSO Member JWStoys has already taken delivery of and sold several 2023 MY heavy duty trucks as well as a 2023 Corvette.

If I go to GM or Chevy the only thing available to build are the crossover SUV's. I think mainline stuff is yet to be built. Corvettes and specialty trucks are the exception?

No thanks necessary & I didn't mean to write a novel, but 1) I am incapable of providing a short answer for anything and 2) "frustrating" doesn't adequately cover the way most dealers feel about the lack of info provided by the manufacturer right now. Most customers understand delays due to things out of our control, but what people have a problem with - myself included - is when there is a lack of communication and you sit in limbo.

As I type this, we have 22 HD CrewCabs with an official status of "shipped", 21 are spoken for, 6 have a supplemental status of "delayed" (we don't know why) and some of the vehicles have been produced and waiting on a ride since April but aren't officially "delayed". We contact GM and the answer varies depending who you get on the phone...customers are mad and we can't blame them. There is nothing worse than a customer who's mad and also right. The guy that has is 80k diesel hauled in on a hook, and is pissed that his "POS broke" and you get to call and ask him who he loaned his truck to, because it's full of gas ? That's easy to deal with....Customers who are frustrated because they've got the better part of a year invested, had to make alternate plans for vacations because their new truck isn't here yet, even though it's shown "produced and available to ship" for 4 or 5 months and we're getting no reason why ?.... And their neighbor ordered one a couple months ago and already have it ? Yeah, That's a bit tougher...they're mad AND right.

I started washing cars in my dad's dealership in the 70's, and started paying attention to the biz part in the 80's ...dropped out of college when I found out a biz prof lecturing me on how business works had just filed BK at his own establishment....I remember looking up parts and searching for vehicles using microfiche (sp?) ....so yeah, I remember all the propaganda surrounding the switch to "just in time" delivery...Just in time inventory makes sense on a certain level, because it's the most efficient use of $$, but you better have a "go to hell" plan for when (not if) there is a disruption in the supply chain. Truthfully though, I'm not sure any plan could have covered the breakdown in literally everything that has anything to do with manufacturing and shipping. It's like preparing for a 100 year rain, and getting hit with once in a millennium level event and "wtf is that Ark doing out there?" ....simply no way to plan for that level of interruption...it wasn't a broken link, it was like someone stole the chain.

RE the 23's: They're on the ground...we've got a Traverse which just got dropped off & we have another 30 or so - Traverse, TrailBlazer, HD Crew, Blazer, Suburban - in various stages of production or scheduled for production.

September traditionally was the "roll out", but that's been falling further and further out of style in the rush to get vehicles to market and court that consumer who just has to have the newest model....I think Ford really started that trend (in a volume vehicle) over 20 years ago when they skipped over the 98 model HD's and went right from the 97's to the 99 Super Duty.

Anyway,,,it's occurring to me that I'm getting way off track and hijacking so apologies for that....I'll try to remember to drop you a line the next time we borrow dad's condo; we usually fly into Melbourne & stay down between Vero and Ft Pierce. We have some friends in your area...they used to have a restaurant right on the water, as in literally out on the pier with the restrooms on shore but I can't remember the name of it...it was even in a couple of episodes of some tv show nobody ever saw about astronauts at the cape...I may have to have my wife text her girlfriend because that's gonna drive me nuts.

cheers

d

Slippery when you start typing, you sure do slip away.
But I read all of it, as you're very informative about the topic on hand, good grammar, paragraph structure.
Carry on.

Truck was built and just waiting to be shipped since June 4th. FMC sent four emails each pushing the expected date it would arrive at dealer out further. Well it finally arrived Friday July 22, picked it up at 3:00pm started on the lift around 8:00pm and finished by midnight. I am really happy with the way it turned out. Now do I keep it or sell and order a 2023.......

I had never been to a car factory until last month when I was in SC I toured the BMW SUV plant. They build a complete SUV in 28 hours, 12 of which are in the paint shop area. They finish over 400,000 vehicles a year there with 13,000 employees. They never have more than a 4 hour supply of parts at the factory at any time with the exception of powertrains which they keep 2 weeks worth since they get imported from Europe. Beautiful plant, literally looks like a college campus and it is not a UAW plant, locals are thrilled to have the work
