Thanks. Brad.

Welding isn’t necessarily destructive lol.

Hoodoo,

Oh, I get that. That’s why the "quotations". I have a REALLY good welder on call if that’s the way I would go. I just don’t want to have to do any painting afterwards if I don’t have to. The paint codes are long lost to history, and I’ll never get it to match. I’d much rather go a more "bolt-on" route, if at all possible, which it seems there is. Although, I'm more inclined to immobilize the coupler I’ve got rather than bolt something over the existing one. I’m chewing on it.

Thanks. Brad.

If you don't have disc brakes you may want to consider switching to disc as part of the upgrade.

Padraig,

Four wheel discs. We’re good there.

Thanks. Brad.

Great! I went with Dexter BrakeRite. No problems. I think I have three summers on them. Wish I had done it years ago.

I changed our the coupler as I didn't like the one I had.

Padraig,

In THIS LINK, someone mentioned they had more problems with they HydraStar and better luck with the Dexter unit.

Whats your thoughts on the Dexter unit? Which one did you get? Got a link? I can’t seem to dig any up.

Thanks. Brad.

No problems. The kit I purchased was plug and play. Only problem was because of my trailer configuration I had a friend fabricate a mounting plate. It would have worked without it but hey ..when you have a friend with a machine shop...

Here is a link.

I put the hydra star unit on my trailer. Easy job. I have an aluminum trailer with a steel tubular tongue section. I did not want to drill into that steel so I made some aluminum brackets that I bolt around the trailer (much like a tongue jack is attached) that way I figured it allowed my painted tongue portion of the trailer to not get any screw holes in it and possible areas to rust.

once you get it wired, you put power to the hydro unit to pump the brake fluid out to the wheels and you easily bleed the air out and done.

The last time I had surge breaks, had the truck loaded with wife and 2 kids and some Moran pulled out in front of me as I traveled 75N to Lake Erie….. hit brakes and you get that delay and bang. Put this EOH, along with disk on all 6 wheels, touch the brakes and the trailer is stopping instantly…. It’s amazing the difference. Feel much safer with family traveling with me.

I’m confident you will rank it as one of the best upgrades to have been done.
