Nice I'm working my way to the cushy job but right now I'm doing feild service for Wiggins lift out on the east coast. I have worked as a Diesel tech since I was 18 with a breif stint as a marine tech in california. I was offered a job with Union Pacific a few years ago and thats how I got into the train stuff. Couldn't work union though. They pay the new guy and the guy that's been there 25 years the same and the pay isn't too good anymore anyway, I think they were paying like 19/hr wich aint krap in this buis no more.

Wow, Monster thread,
i just traded my 95 CC, 4wd, Dually, lb, 6.5 TD Chevy for a 01 Excursion, 7.34x4 w 46k miles last week.
I only tow a 24ft, 7500# trailer and figured the Excursion srw would be ok.

The Dually towed like a dream but had some EFI issues that weren't worth fixing.
The Ford has a sweet leather interior. The suspension is a mess and I ordered Shocks, a sway bar, and I'm looking for stock F350 springs to put under it, and a power programmer kit.
I can't say Jack because I only have 200 miles on it, but I like it alot sofar, (besides the ride, which will improve)
My wife said, "Don't smoke any cigars in it and ruin our family car".
I said, " Family car?, Honey, this is my truck."
Anyway, It's nice enough to park out in front of the house. The 95 dually was getting pretty ratty.

Dregsz: Over the winter I put Radius Rods on my Excursion, and like them quite a bit. They are like ladder bars designed just for Excursions to prevent the spring wrap on the rear axle. Overall, they proved a much more stable, true tracking ride, and many say they reduce steering wonder. On mine, they allow the Helweig and the ranchos to finally do their job. Check them out.

Dont tow it in over drive or you'll be buying a new tranny soon as well. I would invest in a Bank's trans command before I did any upgrades to the motor or before I started towing. Just talking from my experience but my 2000 7.3 Excursion has eaten a tranny, since the trans command and since I stopped using overdrive when towing I haven't had any problems. They (Ford trannies) are about as strong as Bravo 1 drives...............

For those with F-450's and 550's, how do they ride compared to the F-350's???
What about fuel mileage? Is it less that the F-350??
What is the big difference? Bigger Brakes and Springs??

If you had a F-450 and went with those Bigger 22.5 wheels, do you still need to upgrade the brakes?? If so how mush is it to upgrade??

I have a 1998 Chevy Crew Cab Dually w/ 454 auto, I drive it everyday, and the mileage stinks, but it's beed a good truck overall, it's just time to get into something else!! Mine has 140k on it and I bought it 3 years ago with 108k.

What about those F-350 Short Bed Dually's?? How do they ride? any different from the long bed??
Troutly, what is the weight rating on them???

BTW, I pull a .38 Special (9600lbs dry) plus an Eagle trailer (?? 2500lbs.) plus contents (?? 1500lbs. Gas, Water, etc.) So I should be somewhere around 13,000lbs. (right?)
