And I love you, and I promise not to c** in your mouth.

Also seems I put enough roadtax in my boat!

I recently bought a GMC 2500 HD with the Duramax/Allison combo and I love it. It is alot more comfortable than my Ford was. The tranny is also a big help by downshifting for you---that alone is a huge safety factor.

I have a 2000 F350 cc drw 4x4 7.3 with just a programmer and air box for after market stuff on it and it does great. I have looked at the new ones but I only have 70k on mine so I'll keep it for a while.

The new 600 hp Dodge is nice but it's not a real crew cab, grown people will not want to ride in the back, the older 555 hp Dodge the Ford will out pull all day.

The Chevy or GMC I don't know anybody that pulls a heavy load with them but they do ride nice and don't make much noise, but it doesn't seem like they hold up well.

I pulled my 42 Sonic about 30k miles, about 16-17k #'s and no problems ever, out on I95 in middle of the night I ran 80-85 mph no sweat still getting 11 mpg, The 50 Nortech is a bit too heavy about 24k#'s on the trailer, I don't pull as much but when I pulled it the 900 miles from FL. 70-75 mph, 7 mpg, still no problems but I wouldn't want to pull it a lot.

I don't think any 350-3500 truck would pull that much weight for very long.I need a 550 or bigger to pull the Nortech safer. And legally.

I think the chip and airbox will make a huge difference in my truck.
The new Duramax "LLY" is said to be 590 lb ft..

Some of these fuel milage figures I hear are tough to believe.
My truck does the milage for you... I don't know how accurate it is...
I pull my work boat nearly every other day (in the pic). Best I have seen is 13 mpg... Most of the time it gets 11.5 or 12. But yes, I like to move along...
This boat and trailer are about 8500lbs. That hard top drags a shiz load of wind..... I think it makes a big difference at highway cruise.

So far my best milage was 17. something... towed an empty tri axle aluminum to KW from Lauderdale last week for a friend..
The key is to keep the engine under 2200 rpm... but that's tough to do.....

I have pulled with a few Fords as well. I was impressed with the new '05.. I used a new truck with 1500 miles to pull a 42 OL from IN to RI.. It handled it very well. Trans didn't work as well as an Allison, but the engine was smooth and quiet.
That truck has moved three or so more boats since then, and I hear it needs a trans....

The 550 is great, but gets about 10 MPGs, no better. Top speed is 82 MPH.. Great chassis for heavy loads..

I've had the opportunity to try all three of the above trucks on long distance runs towing large offshore boats.

The Dodge Cummins was a nice ride but fuel mileage was horrible, 8.9 mpg towing a 37 Outer Limits CT. to Key West

The Duramax got 12.5 mpg towing a Top Gun, Chicago to Maine. It towed like a much larger truck.

The F350 Powerstroke got 14 mpg towing the Top Gun and you could forget it was even behind you.

I'm a big GM guy, but from my experience the Ford has it all over the other two.

If you go the Dodge/Cummins route , go with the 03 or newer. It rides and handles WAY better than the 02 and older models. Also it doesn't have the transmission problems that the older ones had. The only drawback is it doesn't get the mileage that the 02 and olders got.
I have an 01 with 65k miles that has towed and been modded since it was new. I get 13-14 towing my boat at a reasonalbe speed (65-70) anything more than that and it falls off quick. The only problem I have is I'm limited to how much power I can make because of the trans. As soon as I build up an after market one I will be much happier and faster.
I love the new ones but just can't justify the cost.

Troutly you know more than a guy that owns 2 dealerships about Cummins in 2006? GHL ride in a 3 then make up yourmind, the gm's have really nice seats so you don't get sick of sitting in them on long hauls. Happy shopping, Steve.

I have had all three; 1998 Dodge dually quad cab; 2003 Chevy crew cab dually and just got 2005 crew cab dually Ford psd. They were all good trucks, but the Ford is definetly more of a towing truck.

Hey Boot-
I noticed that Edge lists a different part number for the LLY engine now....
I noticed it on one of your competitors websites...

I thought I could buy a $300 programmer and be happy.. but it looks like I "need" a Edge with attitude monitor, exhaust, and intake... they want $1700....without bolting up the exhaust for me...
