Re: Pull Rig Poll

Just went through this question myself, so I drove all 3 back to back 2 weeks ago. Here's what I found.

Ford: I'm a GM man my whole life, but I was VERY impressed. Rode the best of the 3, and had plenty of power. If it wasn't for the ULTRA-cheesy hose it out at the car wash interior, it would be perfect. Motor and brakes felt like it would move and stop an apartment building.

Dodge: Rode like crap. Wife's butt actually came off the seat on a normal city street. Unacceptable ride. The Cummins, however, was awesome. Easily the most powerful of the 3, even with only a 4-speed automatic. It didn't bother downshifting or any crap like that, just grunted and took off. Remove this motor and put it in something else, and you'd have something.!

Chevy: Loved it. Quiet. Rode better than the Dodge, but not as good as the Ford. Same power as the Ford, but WAY cooler tranny. The allison is awesome. Prob not as good a tow vehicle as the Ford, but way more livable in day to day, and will pull anything i'll be able to afford just fine.

Verdict:

Picking up my new Chevy tommorrow night in Charcoal metallic.! :drink:

Re: Pull Rig Poll

Everybody has their preferences. Mine is Dodge/Cummins.
I owned a 2000 CTD 4x4 Auto Shortbed, and the tranny failed at 77,000. . . time to buy a new truck. I went to all three vendors WITHOUT prejudice ( maybe slightly prejudiced AWAY from Dodge ). Drove all three with the wife ( "no more Dodge") in tow. Did a ton of research ( TurboDieselRegister.com, DieselTruckResource.com, etc.). . . . after all of it, I bought the Dodge ( 2004.5 2500 CTD "600" HO Auto LongBed ). It was cheaper by far, quietest, best interior ( for MY purposes ), best warranty, and most of all - the Cummins ENGINE. Plus I personally like the styling.

To each his own. I have NO problem with people that like the GMC or the Ford. Drive all three and see which YOU like best. . . .

However if it's not a Dodge you're an idiot . . . :D

lapse of reason--- its just a spacer. its an oem bed with a spacer to make up for the wheel base. it was done by manning in Kentucky across the street from where the truck was built... stecz

I have an 04 GMC, 4 inch stainless exhaust and edge with attitude. It pulls awesome and I tow on level 4. The attitude automatically adjusts fuel relative to maximum egt no matter wher your foot is. I am towing a 38, 16,000# full of fuel and it is scary how fast it will pull it. I run off and leave my buddies new 6.0 powerstoke pulling his slingshot. His truck is stock though. I have heard that the 6.0 with the juice attitude is a force to be reconned with. If he puts that on I may be in trouble!

Anybody know what the new trucks are rated to tow on a NON fifth wheel trailer? The ole boat and aluminum trailer are near 13,000 WithOut fuel and all the goodies(coolers) and don't want to be overrated. Too many liability and insurance refusing to pay due to overloaded trucks. Something some should check into...
