I agree Bill, I'm dealing with this problem as we speak. But overall I won't complain. I beat the snot out of my boat and it NEVER left me stranded..

Please give me some more specific details of the transom issue.

Re: Honest Opinions Needed

Well to be more specific, where the pipes come through the transon,no seals or caulk what so ever, where the deck and bottoms are joined,no caulk, where drive indicators, transom anything related,NO Caulk and no ealant at all.Dont get me wrong I love my boat but this is a major problem that needs to be addressed. We did the transom in a 280,A friend had to do his 41 and and also a 22 now I have to do my 320.If I do the math that is about 1 million worth of hardware or so not to mention all the added time and expense of doing all of the repairs as well as R&R Of the engines and drives.I think some caulk would have been a smart idea as well as some good exhaust seals.

Hyper, can i make a suggestion? If you have to take your engines, and drives out to redo your transom right. While your in there working take some measurements and.........

install a reserve fuel tank.:)

I had to dry out and reseal my transom last year. What a pain in the a$$. Took 2 months under the heat lamp to draw all the water out.

Through,

As I have asked you to elaborate once before, and you failed to respond. Any specific incidents that you care to share with us, which may have brought about your problem?????? I know the boat was mint before it "landed" on Long Island.

Any one remember this boat from VELOCITY FEST three years ago???

Thong Fellow 11-24-2006 07:53 AM

Re: Honest Opinions Needed

I know the guy ,he used to keep his boat at the marina across the creek from my house. One sunday afternoon he came flying in the nowake zone on plan with a HUGE hole the size of a beachball in the starbourd side just above the water line.

I got in my truck and went over to the marina to see if he was ok+what happened. He said he coming back across the bay and was running with a friend of his (LUCKY) that saw his boat delaminate when he hit a cruser wake.

Fast forward three days. Velocity send a truck from sanford to pick up the boat. Took his engine, drive, and controls out of his boat. Put them in the very next 280 on the line. Repainted the same graffics on that boat, and brought that boat back to baltimore two weeks later.

This happend in late JUN and he was only down a little over two weeks. A credit to VELOCITY. Fast service and standing by there hulls for 5 years.

Re: Honest Opinions Needed

Yes I remember the boat and yes as Charlie Ewing can attest,Steve Stepp will stand behind his product all the way,I just think that Thorough is bashing for other reasons other than the norm.I can also tell you that the product that he raves about so much now as well as all other manufactures have problems also from time to time,Hustler,Fountain and on and on and sometimes abuse comes into play because as some people forget if you flex it to far and or the wrong way they can and will break and or start to seperate and delaminate.Caulking issues should never happen and are not the norm and should never be an issue.

I know of a similar scenario with a "280". The broken boat disappeared in a hurry.

Not sure what you are referring to I have a 1998 280 and it has a sliding cabin door and I have the optional drop in carpet.

I love my boat, the speed, and handling etc..... Im not bashing ,somebody asked what could be better and i know a problem that needs to be fixed. The boat has been surveryed by 2 differnt surveryors! I still tlk to people i have met while hanging out with the velocity crew.

As far as Velocity the Company deciding not to conduct bussiness further with me that is not true. I just couldnt give them away in my area! In fact some one who you all speak very highly of that was associted i speak to weekly still.

You are bashing saying your entire boat delaminated, which is a bunch of crap now isnt it. Also bring out your your new pride and joy and watch it get spanked,as you would say old school bottomed boat, believe me when I say even Hustler has had some problems even though you say different,so bring it or shut your PIE HOLE.Remember alot of people you spout off to about people and boats and brands might not say anything to you but the word gets around about what you have been running your mouth about,ITS A SMALL WORLD.You should be more cautious when running your mouth. If you are going to spout out you should make sure you are not talking to someones friend or buisness aquatence, you never know who knows who.

I like the idea of a new molded dash/cabin bulk head in the form of a partial cockpit liner. The trade off with liners is the extra weight and the extra cost and Velocity has always scrutinized their price/performance ratio. I think a partial liner would add some nice functionality w/o impacting weight and cost too much. A partial liner would also allow the flip up back seat so many like.

With the possible exception of the "sit down" Velocities - all others have a cabin door.

Back to the topic in the title:

I looked at Velocity boats, liked the price and speeds but the product is very dated.

1. NO windshield boats, make a race fairing
2. NO flame or v stripe paint jobs
3. Redo dash to something more modern

The fire boat previewed at the Jax Firefighter PR was too over the top, the paint looked like it belonged on a El Camino. Send a boat off to an artist like TAOD, Mitcher T or Dave Hunter to give the boat a new look and you will sell more boats.

Or make the girls found on CAVelocity's boat standard then you will sell all the boats!

Hey Thorough,Like Brian said prove it.Until then TMB.How can you still run a boat that is totally delaminated, and if it did it is still under the FACTORY WARRANTY or is that something else you and Steve have not disgussed either I MEAN IT WAS A NEW BOAT CORRECT.5 Year hull warranty and if they do not stand behind it I as well as many other people will be shocked including Steve himself.

Throughs' boat is a 2000 260. It was absolutely mint when I sold it in the spring of 2005 with 123 hours on it. It is my understanding that the boat has been pounded to hell, including having been run aground, where there it sustained damage to the hull/transom, not to mention other abuse beyond what that boat was built for. I have not seen it since, so only Through can speak for the actual condition and what it has been through. Again, perhaps he could share the stories? It is all fun to talk about what you put a boat through untill something fails. This is not a product failure issue.

Numbers 1 and 2 above are solely per the buyer's preferences - old school buyers I guess! I agree with number 3.

..I'd prefer to sell it for something smaller..but that doesn't seem like a possibility..so I suppose it will be re-assembled......no time soon.

I know the scenario of which you speak here RIP. If I recall corectly, there was a denial of waranty coverage here, pushed off to his insurance carrier. But yes indeed, it went hot steppin' down the highway in a big hurry.
