Honest Opinions Needed
Being Velocity owners and being familiar with the product line what changes would you like to see made to the boats. For example graphics, interior cockpit and cabin, dash etcc.
I have been in conversation with both Steve and Clay at the factory about promoting the product line here in S.Fla as well as offereing a full service facility. After spending days at the boat show and talking to non owners the general feeling was that Velocity builds a great boat which is fast, reliable and very well built, however many felt the graphics needed some work and that the cockpit and dash needed to be updated from the flat and square look to something more "modern" Having the ability to do some prototyping I would really appreciate your input Paul |
Re: Honest Opinions Needed
You are correct. There has been some effort to work with Mcleod on interiors, however there are other alternatives available. Dashes and guage display definitely needs an update. It seem as though the models offering the most flexibility are those with a farring. And paint...yes, we are not on the west coast. All of this I would like to incorporate into my next project with them.

Re: Honest Opinions Needed
As far as graffics go i like the plan V down the side of the boat. Chris Cruise does great work but your going to pay extra $$$$$$$ if want awesom paint.
The dash needs a cup holder, and stereo controles at the helm. Whats with the piece of fiberglass between the two bolsters on the 36'-32' you have to take it out to get into the cabin then put it back when underway. I would like to see some kind of sliding door with VELOCITY in it .Maybe smoked glass, and a screen that works with it like donzis ZRs. Another consern would be drainage holes in the cabin, cockpit, and the glove box. I cant tell you how may times i put my cell phone, wallet, and what not in the glove box and forget about it then when it rains finding everthing drenched. I don't know about anyone else but i cant wash the cockpit of my 280 without a shopvac to suck up all the dirty water because of no drian holes near the back seat. One more thing i would do is make the back seat tilt forward on all there models not just the 322. |
Re: Honest Opinions Needed
Feedback is excellent thank you! keep it coming

Re: Honest Opinions Needed
Almost forgot the bolsters. They need a better system than that cable with the two little pieces of rod that should go into two holes on the side of the seat. That lasted about one season on my boat then we had to pull the seat up past the hole jiggle the hell out of it to release then set it on top of the rail instead of in the hole. Last year i was running standing up so i had my seat down when i felt it hit my leg. "The screws backed out". Or so i thought, they used plywood to attach the seat to the brackit on the bolster and it rooted away.NO WOOD IN THIS BOAT HAAAA... It was an easy fix ,now there great i used starbourd to replace the wood.
One thing i really like is use of the black rubrail. That must really cut down on the cleaning time. |

Re: Honest Opinions Needed
Exactly
The object is not to ridicule, the object is to offer constructive opinions as to what would make an great boat even better. It can be a struggle to constantly improve your product but with the help and ideas of owners and potential buyers the job becomes easier. Paul |
Re: Honest Opinions Needed
Ok,I will give it a shot,
First off I love my Velocity, fast, stable and will eat up the rough water. The boat does have a non factory paint scheme as well as big power in it as well as aftermarket drives to handle the power. If I was going to make change at the company I think I would start to give more options on paint and possible power options other than Mercury not that Mercury is bad and that is what I do run but there are alot of other options out there for alot less money.I do believe that possibly making dash and interior changes or upgrades would be a good idea and the NUMBER ONE thing is please get away from the windshield that looks like it belongs on a Sea Ray and go back to a full wrap aroung windshild or wind screen.Steve has always gone out of his way to try and help me out in any way that he could and I am very proud to have owned several of his boats and will continue to do so.Just a few ideas. Bill Weber |
Re: Honest Opinions Needed
I have been looking at the 290SC and hope to get one in the next couple of years. One thing I like about the boat is that there is lots of good space not lost due to styling fluff. Form follows function. Nice big, flat sunpad and swim platform. The dash could use some contuoring and colors, but no monster molded megalith that adds weight and cost and removes space. The cabin walk-thru is a good size, but could use some improvement as mentioned. The trimmer front seats add about 4" to rear seat legroom, so they should be standard.
The most practical feature I would like to see is a molded-lid anchor locker in the bow like Donzi, Fountain and Formula have. Who wants to drag the dirty rope and anchor back and forth across the boat everytime you stop somewhere? Fancy graphics are critical for some, but do continue to offer the clean look for those of us not into 70's era flash that may be out of style in 5 years. And always offer a decent glass windshield option like it has now--I won't consider a boat without one! |
Re: Honest Opinions Needed
Great...Thanks keep them coming
|
Re: Honest Opinions Needed
I agree with Thong Fellow about the dash upgrades and the sliding doors. I've looked at the 290SC as a possible next boat on several occasions. The dash layout and the flimsy door are not selling points for me. I like a little "bling" on the dash :D
I'm glad to see Velocity is collecting some "voice of the customer" data. If you don't build what people want they'll buy it from someone else. |
Re: Honest Opinions Needed
I was just joking.I agree though. The dash could use some other design.
|
Re: Honest Opinions Needed
No bash here! I would not be looking at #3, if there were real issues. Too much crap slows you down anyway.

I agree with all of the above. dash, robust cabin doors, and make the windshields an option, but stick with the fairing as standard equipment. As far as the paint goes. I think some toned down modern paint would be nice. Nothing crazy, but i've always like this style of paint scheme.....

This is the closet/sink in the new 39. Why even have a sink, its so high i don't see anyone of any size really using it. Instead that should be the place for the 20 plasma/dvd/stereo........

Re: Honest Opinions Needed
That sink is pointless.I didnt know it was that high.

It seems to me that the graphics and interiors got alot better (modern) around 02'-03'. I run into alot of people that havn't looked at a newer Velocity in a while and can't belive how far they have come since the 90's. As far as I know mine was painted this way from the factory. My paint and interior are some of the things I like best about it and it always gets complements from others that are in competitve brands and models. So I don't think we are too far off. I like to think of it as simple yet bold.

Re: Honest Opinions Needed
Use to own a Velocity in the late 80's. Also use to work with Art Lilly who sold Velocity. I always loved the dash layout with the gauges running across the entire dash. The graphics however have always been the same big V. I got use to it and it's immeadiately recognized as a Velocity. Maybe offer several graphic styles with the old. Let the buyer decide. Sometimes change is good but I like the old. Just my .02

What happened to this thread???? Lets here some more feedback from you guys.

Re: Honest Opinions Needed
As far as the smaller Velocitys are concerned, Steve should get the molds from Regal for the Regal 230 Velocity and begin producing that boat again. There was a lot of freeboard and room for a 21' boat (23' with the swim platform) and a large usable cabin with facing seats. The wrap around bi-level dash was functional and looked great. The boat ran extremely well. I would love see a new rendition of that boat with a 525 efi stuffed under the hatch with modern gages/bezels/shifter/throttle/better quality interior/etc. The 230 Velocity also carried a 23 degree deadrise...a little better for rough water. It had a great look and profile and beat the $**t out of it's closest looking rival..the Sea Ray Pachanga. I absolutely loved my 230 and with a 454 Magnum ran in the upper 60's all day long. Regal's quality may have left a lot to be desired but their pairing up with Steve Step and designing that model was a Step in the right direction.

Re: Honest Opinions Needed
The # 1 most important thing they need to do is seal the transoms up properly so that they do not Rott out anymore :mad:It is amazing what the end result would be if they used a $15.00 tube of caulk.
