Just as a point of caution. Make sure that the new supplied water is connected to a pressure gauge. My external water pickups run to my sea strainers and then to my super chillers. Last week on a shake down run I noticed that the boat was handeling wierd and I was down on water pressure on the port side chiller, I opend up the hatch and had water up to my lower crank pulley. The line came off at the fitting shooting a 3/4 stream of water in the bilge. I look at my gauges all the time and was lucky to spot that. Without a pressure gauge I could of sunk.

Good point glad you didn't sink. I do have water pressure gages. You probably know this already but some may not. I know its hard to think straight when your ride is sinking but if you do get in a crack like a fitting breaks or thru hull gives up and you have strainers close the inlet water valve then take the hose off the suction side of the strainer and lay it in the bilge start the engine and pump out the bilge. Might get you to the trailer. If you have good insurance grab the ice chest and life jacket. Relax and wave good by.:party-smiley-004:

My thru hulls are coming along nicely. A little more time consuming than expected but I have been known for my patience. There is just not much working room on the hull between two big blocks engines. Especially with my trim 240# frame.

I did the final thru hull install today after fitting them. Got them trimmed off under the boat. These are 1 1/2" OD each angled 30 degs towards the bow so I trimmed them flush with the bottom on the front 3/4" of the 1 1/2" and left 3/8" sticking down in the rear 3/4" of the tube. I can trim more later if needed. They look almost cannon like under the boat, they should pick up plenty. I think they are big enough to put a small bass in the strainer.

I should be ready Matt. We need to try out these new props and see some water pressure. I got the drives water plumbed out the top of the extension boxes. When I took the plastic water outlet off the drive to add the new billet replacement water outlet I found the gasket had a leak (starboard) and water in the extension box so I figure that is where I was sucking air and taking on some water through the boxes. The gasket was the only thing I didn't check untill I installed the thru hull pickups but I'm glad I found it. Would have been a b itch if water froze inside the box and cracked it.

I periodically pull the drain plug on mine to check them. I know the doors/windows must leak a little. Not a bad idea to take a looksee in there anyway.

I hope this fixes your problem and doesnt create any new ones!!??:party-smiley-004:

I don't see a plug on mine?

Velocity Vector 09-04-2009 08:27 PM

4 Attachment(s)
Thru hull pickup are done. These have 4 bolts to secure them. Bolts go in from the bottom up with the nut inside the boat. You counter sink them on the bottom of the boat 3/4" deep and 3/4" diameter then install dowell rod plug after the bolts are tight. Then I made divits around each bolt plug and the tube about 2" diamiter and filled it in with fiberglass and sand smooth.

TxHawk 09-05-2009 07:21 AM

Im impressed. Hope they work!

Im headed to the lake. Call me if your going to be around.

Velocity Vector 09-06-2009 05:05 PM

Matt good seeing you agian and meeting some of your friends, your boat looked great, not to often you get to see 3 big Excalibers running together, that's over 120' of history. Wish I could have hung around longer. I can't believe a paper towel I left in the bilge put me on the trailer. I back flushed the bilge pump, There was a bounty paper towel rapped up in the bilge pump is why it wasn't working. The thru hull pickups worked great. I had a constant 15-20# Water pressure. Oil temp was 190-200 water temp 100 degrees. Didn't find any leak yet but almost certain it is the doors on the boxes seeping in. I checked the bottom and all looked good there. I'm glad all that work paid off installing those bast ards. A piece of mind knowing the engines are staying cool.

TxHawk 09-07-2009 02:33 PM

Well sh!t man. Good to see you too. I will get all the pictures out this week.

Velocity Vector 09-11-2009 11:43 AM

I got my drive showers installed, I'm useing the drive water to shower the drives since I installed the thru hull water pickups. I routed the water right thru the top of the boxes and down to the shower. with 1" hose. I never saw this done before, I may have to put a patent on it. I took off the old showers and filled in the holes on the cav plate. Also drilled and tapped drain plugs in the bottom of the boxes to check and drain boxes when winterizing.

Wait until you see the landing. While the picture is cool, I think we all know that this is not something you want to try to do again.

I admit I was showing off my new Thru Hull water pickups...I think the video will look worse than it was. But again that was the first time I ever touched my toes standing in a bolster seat. I know what bow lift is now...

go fast enough and trip like that , you might get to play submarine captain , glad you are okay and didn't break anything

Thanks Ray, These V's are tough, I'm sold...I'm glad no one was in there with me but again if someone was with me I wouldn't have hit that 48' Sea Ray wake at that speed....Lesson learned...I did notice no one was asking for a ride after that...Heee!

Here is Matts Video of last Sat. Thanks Matt Don't call us lucky call me lucky lucky.

How fast are you running when you do the blow by past the photo boat? Ballpark number?

I hit the wake @ 50 MPH as I did all day behind the 40 excalibur and BT but this wake was behind a 48' Sea Ray.

Forget your aches and pains and pay attention here!

At that speed you need to have the boat sitting more on it's tail to get rid of that chine walking you are going thru. The water seemed to be fairly good, and watching the video it looks to me that you have too much hull in the water for the speed you are running, too much hull in the water will create the chine walking.

Try this ............ Mark on your indicators where the tabs are neutral / even with the bottom of the hull, once you get to 70ish set them about 1/2 to 1 indicator mark below that point then do not adjust them at all, from there on up just trim the biotch and sit it on it's tail. Should take that slow chine walk out of it. You will have to play with the tab setting to see what exactly works on your boat, but believe me in that water it should be really solid and not doing that chit.

Think of it this way ............. What you are doing it creating a tri-pod, in a sense, for the boat to run on, the pad bottom and the two tabs, the tabs act like training wheels! Being slightly down keeps some pressure on them and holds the hull in line, and it scrubs way less speed than the chine walking will. Believe me, eight years in that hull at close to 100 it works!!!

Send air fare and I'll learn yer azz in person! :D

There marked but it seems, I may be wrong but with the longer tabs I have once it starts that chit it just gets worse. I am swapping them out and going with the short ones and see if it makes a difference. My thinking is the long ones, mine are 27" are just to long. I'll get running on the pad like you said and she does good but if it starts chine the long tabs start to magnify the effects? She was going good in the video but then she wobbled right before the vid boat and started that chit.

007joe 09-22-2009 09:54 PM

Glad to hear your okay VV... Sick video though!

Maybe thats why the 3 blade worked better for me, less stern lift more bow lift.

1HYPER1 09-22-2009 11:17 PM

Like pete said find the sweet spot and then adjust from there,I can sit mine on the tail for miles and never adjust anything you have the same thing as me plenty of power, the more power in a 320 the better it likes it because you can drive through anything except that 48 Sea Ray cruiser wake over trimmed:kiss:.Sorry but you were.Leave the big tabs on it and let me know when to come down and we will figure out the settings and you can get a few quick lessons on how to tame a out of control missle.Pete has alot of seat time in the 320 so he knows what and where to do things but he has been in a beak boat for several years which is a point and shoot thing,so I guess you need to come up here or bring both of us down there to really help figure it out,let me know what you want to do and always remember it is like a 22 footer on steroids.B esafe and let me know what is up,we should get together and compare the difference and change some set ups to see if the extension boxes work for the good or bad of the hull I would love to feel the difference.I will talk to you soon KC,be safe and slowly work up to full speed.:drink:

RaggedEdge 09-23-2009 07:15 AM

I see Bravos on the boat in your last pics, have you tried the Hydros? I always felt the boat handled better with the Hydro 4 blades. Just another thought here.

Velocity Vector 09-23-2009 11:16 AM

I'm testing hydro Q4's 31's this weekend. Thanks for the help. I would like a visit from both of you. Hyper and Ragged

1HYPER1 09-23-2009 01:14 PM

My 320 is alot more stable as well as faster with the Mercury labbed 4 blade 34s on it the Hydros always seemed a little more loose and did not have the bite that the Merc blades have,I would love to make the trip down lets set something up and lets do it,or better yet bring that thing up here and run it on the Chesapeake Bay.:coolcowboy:
