Bought engines today VV
 

These engines are going in my 320 to replace the 496's.
They are 2005 Factory Mercury 750HP Super Cat Racing Engines with 10 hrs from new. I am having the 12/1 ratio pistons and roller cams changed to 9.8/1 ratio to run pump gas. My bell housings off the 496's will work. We are looking for 6000 RPM and a little over 700 HP per side with the new pistons / cams. I think they will look trick and should be bullet proof.

Lot of money for tater launchers!!! But I bet they'll really launch them taters a country mile. You have some real big coconuts to put them in that 32 VV, qualifies you for the Bad MoFo of the year award. :D WTF happened to some nice little dependable blue motors???

through the hatch? hope your not a neat freak! that ****s meeeesssssy... all the carbon you see on your transom will now be all over the top of the boat (and the roof of the dock!) hard to beat for that trick look though!

Congrats and Good Luck! You will have to keep us posted on the swap. I think 700 hp will be very easy to acheive with those. You will prob. have the fastest N/A 320, maybe even the fastest 320!!!!!:cool-smiley-011::hitfan:

THAT A BOY. keep us posted that will be one bad 320. Now you will be able to run over a 100mph without trimming it to the sky and getting all bent out of shape like the other guys talk about. NOTDA1 knows what i'm talking about he had one of the baddest 30's around and never had it trimmed out of shape or unsafe @ 105 mph plus, full of people. Curt. P>S i think that exhaust will get old quick just my .02$

Maybe Notda1 could give you some input on the drives. Also if Hyper1 see's this maybe he will chime in on his drive swap on his 320.

Personally, I would go with the stronger drive, but what do I know, I run an Alpha!:evilb:

My thoughts on the drive are to go with a modified XR. If you had a heavier boat it would be a no brainer, but I think you can get away with XR's with good componenets. Of course that all depends on your driving habits too

Good luck VV. Please take some pic's of the engine installations and post as there will be a ton of interest!

I definitely agree with Frank on going with the modified XR's since you have a lighter boat and NA motors. The BMAX's will definitely effect your handling/speed with it's bigger cross section, make the boat even more tail heavy and I think the jury is still out on just how much stronger the newer BMAX drive really is. In either case, I'd install longer trim tabs to give yourself every handling advantage.

Having previously owned a 90 MPH 320, I'd definitely recommend spending plenty of time talking to Hyper about setting up and driving a 320 at the 100+ MPH mark! :cool-smiley-026:

I would definetly agree here, having owned Hypers boat for 7+ years, you need to take your time learning. That hull can bite you hard if you do not respect it.

On the drives, Bill can confirm, but I am pretty sure he went with the Imco Extremes with a 1.50 ratio. XRs would likely work as well, especially if you go to the newer swept back style, they are supposed to be somewhat better, steel tower, heavier thrust washers etc.

Found a set of new race preped xrs with shorties,

I am having the dry sumps removed and adding oil pumps and pans 10 quart pans, I just don't have a whole lot of room to add the oil tanks.

VV I'm running CMI Split Top Dry Pipes ,off the old merc 900,
They go thru the transom above the swim platform. This is a loud set up. sounds awesome but after an hour or two its loud.

You may want to think about those pipes before cut your boat up.

In a lot of areas the police are cracking down on loud boats.The cops on the river where i live they carry a db meter.I don't have mufflers but should.I do get a hard time about the noise sometimes .Around busy areas from dockmasters police and the public.I always hand out earplugs to passengers, and have a hard time hearing each other when underway.Rather be fast and quiet if I could. Notda1, here it is a after dark noise limit, but anything goes during the day. Those SSm's are all business looking aren't they. Ray must be a real neat person, just look at floor in his shop, cleaner than my kitchen floor.

The XR's drives ship on Monday or Tuesday and the motors will be torn apart this weekend for the piston and cams removed and pistons weighed for balanced for replacement 9.8:1 Flat top pistons. We are sceduled in 2-3 weeks for the dyno runs before the installs. Ray said he is thinking 700-725 HP @ 6000 RPM range.

Anyone heard from Hyper1, I tried to e-mail him but it came back undeliverable. Hope he's alright.

I dropped him a call. He has a lot of stuff going on! I am sure he will chime in when he gets a chance!!

Any thoughts, Since I am going with these engines, think it would be a good Idea to go ahead while I'm here to change my Bravo gimbal ring and helmet to Imco HD's, I sure don't want to break a gimble and have to pull the engine to change it out later. The cost of the Imco's will be close to the same as pulling the engine later.
