I am not the one who told someone how to run a boat. You seem to know everything about everything!!!!! That being said, why would you tell some one what applies to a "F"ountain will apply to thier Formula????? Two totally different boats with different handling characteristics?!?!?!?

I did not tell anyone how to run their boat, simply responded to his inquiry about info relating to step bottom boats. Mentioned the info on the Fountain site would be worth the look. Take the time to run both the Fountain 35 as well as the Formula 353 and you will notice that they are similiar in some of their handling characteristics. Take the time to go thru the info on the Fountain site and you may see that some of the general info there would cross over to many boats of similiar design. Obviously I have a fair amount of time in both the single and twin step 35 Fountains, but I also have spent a fair amount of time in the Formula 353. I feel the Fountain is more stable and tracks better at speed, but that's my opinion, and it's based on having run both boats. You should try both and let us know what your opinion is, that sharing info deal that notda1 was talking about.

As far as the Tres School, never taken the deal. But I would if there was more emphasis put into the "on water" portion of the classes. His base course has no "on water" instruction, the upgraded course has a few hours of the "on water" instruction, I wonder just how much time one gets behind the wheel being shown the finer points. Tres himself lumps both high speed Vees and Cats into the same course, wonder where the similiar handling comes into play there. Maybe it's that doing stupid chit can get you into trouble no mater what the boat or hull design is. Maybe it's that in fact learning how to safely and properly set up and run a boat at speed does have some cross over between designs, You think?

One more thing here, if you are chasing my posts you surely must have noticed that I do not offer any advice to the guys running the 40+ foot Vees and Cats. I would be out of my element there, though the 41 Velocity is one that I have been behind the wheel for a Poker Run and a few of the PRA Speed Runs, might make a comment or two on that one. Only up to the 100-105 mph range, beyond that I would not be able to make an intelligent or well founded comment.

Personally, I don't think going to a class on high performance boats would do me any good. It may help someone that just bought a speed boat to learn the basic stuff. I think the only way to learn is a lot of seat time and patience. I could take a class on Nascar driving but would not qualify me to be in a race. I believe in learning all you can by experience not a book class. I think the school gives some people more confidence to screw up because they read a book. Common sence go's a lot futher in my book. You don't learn to run untill after you learn to crawl, doesn't take a manuel and a $5000.00 coarse to figure it out. I say spend your money on gas and and seat time and use common sence. I'm sure Tres means well with his school, but I would bet he didn't get where he is today by reading a book, he learned by observing others and experence behind the wheel. You can't get that anywhere in a one week class.

Vicious22 06-18-2008 07:26 AM

Ragged Edge,

The OSO subscribers have notified me of a manditory name change.

I have to give up Vicious22 and go with huggybear22........they wanted to free up Vicious for you.

peace love and flowers to all. Even the hostile beak boaters

320 update, waiting on engines to arrive and get them on the dyno then the rigging process. Still waiting on the extension boxes, sent them out for re-paint they had a few scratches form storage. Imco HD gimals and helmets should arrive by the first of next week, The helmets are on back order. I have everything else and excited to get her going but not a good time of year to get things done in a hurry since everyone is so busy this time of year.

To a point I agree that seat time is the best teacher. A basic understanding of the does and donts is valuable as well, no matter how one gets this info. These courses would likely benefit any of us, but like I said before the general rules carry across the board. Common sense is the key here, and the age old saying "A man needs to know his limitations".

I would put my money with yours on this one VV. The classes are one day in the classroom, or a day in the classroom with a few hours on the water.

Hyper, you be carefull with that boost, The only way to pass HYPERACTIVE would be for her to break.

I did buy the extension boxes from Bonecrusher here on the board, They only have 40 hrs. on them. I got both sets complete with XR drive shafts, steering rams, hoses and all the hardware, new paint and shipped for $3,500.00. I thought that was a very good price.

He got ready to ship them and noticed some scratches on them. He decided to have them completely repainted before he shipped them to me. Not many guy's would have done that. They are curing and should ship the first of the week.

These are set @ 13 degrees, meaning if the stern is 13 degrees the prop is the same height with the boxes. The 320 has a 16 degree angle so the props will be a tad lower 0.0524 to be exact. The equation is 16 degs. - 13 degs. = 3 degs. tan X 1' or 12" extension = 0.0524 of an inch lower than stock. With the 1" lower XR's I have, it will bring the props up higher than stock even with the boxes.

Also while I'm apart, I bought new Imco helmets and HD gimbal rings that should ship Monday from Imco. The helmets have been on "back order", Don't want my beautifull nose smashed into my speedo with a broke gimbal ring.

Steve told us the same, they probably won't help the speed but might help the attitude some, tricking her into thinking she's a 33 footer. I think it will look cool. Steve said he didn't know of any one that has tried it yet. He wants me to let him know how it works out. I guess I am doing the Captain Kirk exploring new worlds thing. If nothing else they will make good trotline weights! I'm hoping for them to settle the ride a little.

Here is what they look like, they have the wings with the rams and Bonecruchers boat on the cover of HOT BOAT Mag,

Andy 06-21-2008 08:20 PM

It is amazing how things work!! My boy's have developed an "I don't want to" and an "I don't care" attitude. So when they asked if we were going boating I said "I don't want to". They than said "Well we want too". I said "I don't Care" They seem to have learned a little something from it.(I hope!) Punished myself though in the process.

I throwed one of my daughters punk ass friend out of my house today. I came in sweating my ass off from digging post holes to get a glass of tea , looked over and this dude was piled up asleep on my leather couch with his fuking shoes on. He woke up startled when I grabbed him by the hair of his head and escorted him to the door, "this ain't no fuking motel, come back when you get some manners fuk head" What the fuk are these kids thinking...

Same thing for me, this little cork soaker stole from my wifes purse last week. I grabbed another kid same build and hair colour as a kid that was seen at my place, I swatted him and he pissed himself but swore it wasn't him. Fast forward to today, my one son came home and told me that some little puke was bragging that he went to my end of town and ripped some one off for the same $$$ as I am missing. I went by where this kid was working at today to have a chat, he wasn't there but tomorrow he works!
