Mike that does sound sweet....... I did check with Kenny and he said Steve has set up tabs the way mine are. Said it handles higher speeds really well this way. That was good to hear.

MERRY CHRISTMAS VELOCITY COMRADS........Just got my blower back from the blower shop, bearings were worn out and the rotors scuffed up the blower housing. they did an awesome job it looks like new......they added teflon strips too. Also found out the chiller core was swelled closed so had to put in a new one. Not knowing for sure what happened ,... either it overheated or the previous owner didn't drain the intercooler and it froze. I'm really surprised it ran so well the few times I had it out. Good thing we found these issues early on. You really never know what your getting when you buy an older boat.

Question for you guys out there.... My boat tops out about 80mph with a 30p 4 blade merc prop,.... If I'm not interested in top speed only, what would be the down side to running a 32p to get a better crusing speed and turning the engine at less rpm's ...say 65mph and lower ? Would take off suffer?
|
Actually turning a bigger prop slower "generally" yields a faster top end. Accleration will be less. I wouldn't expect any issues out of the hole going up 2" in pitch. That being said, you always need to experiment with props to know whether you're happy or not.

You really should be running a prop that lets your boat reach it's full RPM range. Do not go up in pitch just to get lower RPMs at mid-range. Otherwise you are "lugging" the motor. In long term effects, your looking at mushrooming valves and premature engine wear. (kinda like being one gear to high all the time while driving your car) If you can switch to a 32 and still reach your full RPM range, then go for it. The best measure for knowing if your properly propped is what your top end is and if you reach that RPM level.

Thanks for the responses.......Then what I'll have to do is see if it will over rev with the 30P I only had it to 5000rpm once for a second then backed it down as I'm still getting used to the boat. It didn't feel topped out though. If it willl rev higher how far is safe past 5000 rpm ? What rpm do I want the boat ultimately to max out at ?......... Specs say 4800-5200 on a 540, does a blower make any difference?
