Because that's normal. Running a left hand prop helps even out the torque. the eng. pulls one way and the prop pulls the other. easer to keep on the pad. plus it puts the torque down on the cone clutch instead of up on the cap. I just did a 280 with no hyd. steering. big difference spinning a left hand prop.

At 104mph that 41' must have ridden like a Cadillac . A number like that is a great speed for any boat . And I think most Velocity's are happy when going over 100 .

Man the blue 390 with the 700 mercs and nxt,s drives like its on rails. Ran it at 114-116 mph and that thing has everything in it. and ran over evrything ,big boat wakes and sloppy water. My stag. 390 was the same way. what a differance from a side buy side.

left hand props put the load on the cap , right hand props are easer on the drive

The staggard COG makes it handle the rough water much easier . The 41' I had would go through almost anything at speed with little effort . That's how it got nick named the "Bus" .

I have owned a side by side 30' and a staggard 41' Velocity . Staggering improves speed by moving props closer together , it also improves handling by lowering weight in the hull for better cornering and creating a balanced COG to help handle larger waves . Driving with big motors at high speed in rough water IMO requires running flat or nose only slightly up . When airing out the side be side in big water the rear drops faster , which increases the chance of tripping and stuffing the nose . Running pointed to the moon may work better in calm conditions or on rivers and lakes . Drive like that in big water and risk becoming a submarine . Notice that the fastest boats around are staggard . IMO the the faster you go the more important handling is . Your probably right that a side by side might stay on the pad easier with moderate power . So the best choice may depend on what motors you have and where you boat .

I have had 3 390 one staggered. when you move weight forward it slows down period. if you can drive you don't moon shot it in rough water. And yes when you bring the drives in closer it does pick up speed in a ventilated boat that runs flat. what you gain in stager you loose in moving weight forward. we took the 500 efis 565 hp out of my 2000 390 and put them in the 05 that we built that was a staggered boat. same speed 91 mph. Yes it rode and drove 100 time better. In a single eng. velocity if you passenger moves to the back of the boat you will pick up speed. Its all about leverage and how much it takes to keep it up on the pad. That right from Steve Stepp
