I had a 1984 Steve Stepp velocity (had it for 11 years) with a 1985 3.4 liter mercury outboard. It was set up with a jack plate, hot foot, and hynautic steering. The boat handled great, it had no problem handling a 2-foot chop. Actually, a light chop appears to be the ideal condition for this hull.

Modvp, I am curious , how fast did your 22 run with the 300 hp 3.4. The reason I ask is that from 1987 till 1999.I ran one on my 22 with real good luck. In 1996 I picked up a 3.4 EFI powerhead and ran it for a couple of years. The 15 amp alternator couldn't keep up with the electric fuel pump and other electronics so in 1999 I bought a new 300 promax. Frank
