non-boating question - we're going to be in Crested Butte MTBing next month and wondered what there was to do around Gunnison.
We're going on to Montrose, and would like to boat on Blue Mesa,if anyone knows of a rental company.thanks

Check out Schofield pass(Jeeping/hiking) Don't think Blue Mesa rents boat, not sure. Hit the marina right in the middle of the lake, Elk Creek.GAZ says there is live music there every Sat night. If you get a chance, head down to Ouray from Montrose, "Swiss Alps of the Rockys "

Alright GAZ, this is the weekend. We are heading to Mesa on Sat afternoon, going to hang till Sun night. If your there, we"ll see ya! Lets have a couple of beers!!! The 22p bravo got me 50@ 9200' on Twin Lakes yesterday. Is that good? Im thinking bout 52 at Mesa, we'll see. Not too many people get to boat at 9200" and look at 14k' peaks!!! Btw, water was COLD!!! Keeps the 496ho cool though!

Great to finally meet an OSO guy on the lake! Great time GAZ!!! Your stomping ground at Blue Mesa is a good time. Thanks for the hospitality! We are heading to Navajo for Labor day week, we should get as many OSO members down there as possible! !! If you haven't been to Navajo, you need to check it out. There are several 100+ mph boats there and plenty of coves to hang out in. Let's get this lake fired up with some power!!!

On another note I'm serious about both of us showing up at Twin Lakes. I think that would be hysterical. Let me know if you make plans for going there again.

This road used to be one of most "impassable" passes. With large consequences if you messed up. Over the last several years the clubs have made big improvements. I was up there a few weeks ago and I would say four wheel drive with good ground clearance is quite doable. It is still very intimidating.
