That's my whole point. The boat is definately no turd. Don't let those on here that have never been in it say other wise.

And from my understanding, owners buying a new ol, taking parts out to put in it. Unknown what the fate of the apache will be but like I said; someone will most likely be able to pick it up (less power/drives/etc) for a decent price considering it's brand new. And if it were me, I'd cut the euro step off, cut down the fairing and remove the radar arch. Then we're talking about a bad azz apache imho.

2fast4you,

"120's" is what I heard but don't know the exact top speed. Figure a 50 Cig maurader runs 125 (give or take some dialing in) with the same power, so for anyone that says this boats a turd and too heavy, I think not.

I would love to be able to afford Cold War. Come on Mega Millions! LOL!

I wasn't calling the boat a turd. I was just refering to the musical motors game.
I'm with you on the surgury though. With all that kevlar and carbon fibre I'll bet someone will go through plenty of sawzall blades as well as a couple of saws before all is said and done.

I know I'm in the minority on this one. No Surgery. I would take that Apache back to McManus, have him install 3 new Teague Engines and Merc VI SSM drives, install bolsters of my liking and enjoy that Apache Powerboat!

Triple 1200 twin turbo Chiefs and Weismann 6s is the way I would go. Or twin 1800hp TM turbines and BPM or Arneson drives.

2 fast 4 you 05-13-2009 09:21 AM

Twin turbines would be really cool in this boat.....definately a one off then (not that it isn't now).

Panther 05-13-2009 10:18 AM

I don't get it. Someone contracts to build a brand new boat from the ground up, test runs a few times and is having another one built by a different manufacturer, derigging the current boat but nothing is wrong??? Something seems fishy.

Not for nothing but if the guy is worried about speed or weight they should probably be talking to MTI, Skater or Mystic.

No, i think i'd rather be able to afford to de-rig and sell a boat like that AND move on to another boat of almost equal dollar or even more for that matter, haha.

To write those checks there must be a lot of ink in that pen.

That's what throws me for a loop... Even if I had a couple million to blow on boats I don't see how it makes sense.... We know the got his money somehow and I'm sure he has his act together but it doesn't add up in my opinion.

I'll ask around....:bigbird:.

Did you miss Tank's post? He seemed very well informed.

Purpose built to owners specs. 18k lbs at 120 through 6 foot seas isn't anything to scoff at. Those that have actually run this boat don't have anything negative to say about it. Those that work for or own other companies do...Go figure.

Oh I'm sure theres lots more to the story. But the fact remains, the people that know the boat and that ran the boat say theres nothing wrong with it. I'll believe un-biased opinions over those that have an agenda.

I'm not aquantances with Tank nor am I familiar with his industry experience so I'll just speak to people who work there or are working on the rig.... Don't take this the wrong way or as an insult, it's not intended to be.

Have fun folks, all the best. :bigbird:

I don't agree with you not having an agenda. You don't like the fact that Mark McManus owns Apache Powerboats. And that's your problem. But at least be honest about it.

Ed, I really don't mind that he owns it, that's your insecurity speaking out. Where we differ is in your interpretation of history but that's your opinion and you're entitled to it. :bigbird:

We'll just have to agree to disagree on things.

Peace out!

i have been boating a long time. 1 thing i have learned is when you get it together and running.........LEAVE IT ALONE AND RUN IT. any one agree? you are putting your boat together yourself ? if so you know how much work and time it takes. not to mention B S AND T.

Honestly tell us how your boat has never seen water since you owned it and post otherwise, had no engines and needs a transom?:party-smiley-004:

I agree, but I don't always do that. Even a 55 year old guy like me can bite off more work than he can do in a timely manner. I have to always watch myself because I get involved with too many (excellent) projects. Hang on, I have to push these 4 new #6 wet sumps around the garage.........I know two of them would be better off on the Comanche.
LOL!

Nice engine pic of the previous owner! ;)

Drives must be new cause it had 3's when for sale at National less engines. Looks like you're making progress and have some drives, now get er done so we can go boating... :)

Hey, I can offer to shrink wrap your boat. McManus would flip if he heard you had it chaffing under a tarp. ;)

The engines are exactly like that as we speak, the #3's are still on it and for sale. Thanks for the shrink wrap offer, but I would love to do a huge garage. Here I go with another project. And hey it's nice to know I have a stalker. At least somebody cares.

That engine compartment looks excellent!
I spoke to McManus about this topic around a week ago and he told me where to place the X dimension for the #VISSM's in my application. I don't do paint or fiberglass work, so it will be sent to Fiberglass Plus in Point Pleasant. Frank (the owner) has a lot of experience and always does a beautiful job. Progress has been slow, but I feel the Comanche will be exceptional when it is finished. I usually keep a powerboat about 20 years, I better hurry up I've owned this one for over 4 already!
